As you may have noticed, I have been very outspoken in my condemnation of Hockaday's appointment. Like most others I would have preferred a manager experienced at this level as a minimum, and with some success behind him as well. Cellino clearly is watching the pennies, so Hockaday it is ... the best of the bunch available from the Pound Shop. However, like it or not (and I really don't), I am now going to support Hockaday because he is a part of our club, and like anyone who comes here to try and help us, he deserves a chance to do his job. Yes, he's going to find it really hard work, and the pressure will be immense, but I feel its time to back off and let him get on with it. He has a fantastic opportunity to build his legacy in the game now, and its up to him to succeed or fcuk it up and sink away into everlasting obscurity. Sometimes that kind of incentive can drive a person on to achieve impossible things, and maybe, just maybe Hockaday turns our underachievers into promotion winners. The next thing of course is the type of players we sign. I hope Cellino doesn't add any more journeymen to our squad just to fill positions. Players with some ability and tons of desire will be a good start. So, in Dave we trust ... for now
Glad to see your putting a brave face on this. I can't even bring myself to think about just how pathetic and penny-pinching this appointment is. It's an absolute joke. But as you say, let's see what happens to the team and the players that come in now.
Well put Billy. Like it or not, he's now our coach and he has plenty to prove. But if Cellino backs him over time and brings in the players Hockadoodledoo wants, then he/we have a chance. If he doesn't, the likes of Ross, Byram etc will be on their way. As I've mentioned before, he do enough to bring through the likes of Ashley Young. So he can't be too bad. Unless things start off badly, the singers and song writers at ER are going to have a field day. Agust the 9th, "You've got the Holloway, but we've got the Hockaday..." Get writing people, we're in for an interesting few months.
Tommy, where are you & Ringo etc arranging for a Leeds/'Wall drink up before the game on the 9th? Preferably somewhere neither sets of meatheads would normally congregate.
Well said Billy. The way I see it, people can continue Cellino/Hockaday bashing for the rest of the season, but where is the enjoyment in that and what difference will it make. When I first supported Leeds 45 years ago, I knew nothing of managers, coaches or back room staff. The players were my heroes and those guys still are. I dont care who or whats in charge or what changes are needed to ensure Leeds can begin to grow again and eventually make it to the pl again
Was just thinking myself that now the manager/coach situation is sorted, his old club has been sold and the loan money paid back then surely it must be time now to start signing a few players? I seem to remember from previous seasons it is the end of June that contracts start to expire, I am expecting free transfers but hopefully there will be some decent ones willing to join.
The big problem you have now Ristac - Hockawally is the man that has to convince the potential targets to sign for Leeds - If more than 1 club are after them, can you see him pulling this off with his "work hard, try hard" ethos? McDermott and Warnock are respected figures in the game and players wanted to sign for them - can't see this wally having the same pull
I don't believe he will get to speak to any targets, that will be Cellino. The first thing Hockaday will know of a new man will be the day he signs on the dotted line.
Do you really think that players at this level won't want to speak to the manager about the set up, ambitions and how much they are wanted by this manager before signing?
Seemed to work in Serie A, a higher level than this. Takes some getting used to but Cellino is in effect the manager. He'll have to sell the club to any prospective signings, not Hockaday. Up to the players whether they buy into it or not
Yes and that will be Cellino just as he called all the players back early to have a word with them, Hockaday isn't the manager, he is the coach
