Good Morning Everyone, Terrible night for English football last night. It was the battle between Donkey and Shrek, and Donkey won!!! I'm just pleased that England have been put out of their misery at this early stage, so we are not subjected to more crap. If I had wanted to be subjected to mediocre footballers who cannot defend for toffee, fluff their chances and cannot string two passes together I would have bought 'Millwall's greatest moments'; sure, its only two minutes long, and you'll get change from your quid, but the similarities are scary.. Dave has been confirmed as our new manager. During his press conference yesterday he confirmed the following :- “Nobody gives you respect; if I am a big name or a little name, I have to earn respect. “So I will earn their respect and they will have to earn mine. It is a mutual thing. “I came to Leeds as a player and and it was a horrible place to play. I know the Leeds fans want to see hard work, honesty, passion and hunger. That’s my job and that is what we will give them. “Of course, it is (his biggest coaching position) by far. But it is one that I relish.” On players possibly being shocked at his appointment, the one-time Watford first-team coach, who will meet the Leeds squad at the start of pre-season next Thursday, added: “Ask them after the first day after they have seen me coach. That is what I do and am comfortable with that. “My job will be re-educate a lot of the players as it is going to be about hard work. “My challenge to them is that I do not want to play any team that works harder than us or wants to or needs to win more than us. “We are going to have the best work and team ethic in the league; that is do-able. That is my first challenge.” Here is the press conference in full.
Morning Elland and all. England out, I'm devastated of course. Even I thought they might hang In a bit longer. At last momentum begins to build for new season. One thing I find refreshing from the press conference is no ones job will be safe at the club from now on unless they perform. Coaches , players or whoebver, it won't matter. For far too many years we've been lumbered with useless sods on big money, long contracts and no incentives to perform. One example Diouf over last season. Could you imagine Cellino tolerating that. No and nor should he or anyone else be allowed rob wages from the club for under performing or not performing at all
Morning Eire, yeah, bet you were sobbing into yer beer Hockaday sounds like a worthwhile coach. Lets see what happens
Morning all. Rugby players perform to the sound of swing low. Cricketers go out to the sound of Jerusalem. And our wonderous players perform with the crowd whistling the tune of the great escape. Now I know the lady of a rotund nature is currently tuning up, but she hasn't actually started singing yet. So whilst its unlikely, it ain't over yet. Mind you, at least Waaaayyynnnnee scored.... & and I believe he got a goal as well!! So not all bad. But it was nice to see England's back 4 having learned the fine art of dfencive play and marking from the Leeds back 4 of last season!!! Good luck to Hackadoodledoo.
Hodgson deserves some plaudits for going with youth, but also deserves a kicking for not recognising that the best defender was left behind. Terry had the best OPTA Statistics for the last 2 seasons, and that includes foreign defenders!!! So why leave him at home and watch PJ **** up at least 3 times, which conceded 3 goals. WE couldn't defend Roy and Why wasn't Cole organising things on the left, where our Italian goals came from. Sorry Roy but not taking those Chelsea players cost us. I'm even more worried now I've seen the interview. So were we so bad last season because we were too unfit? So this season we get fitter, work harder but have less skill, and the only tactic is to run harder? I live in hope. Dave evaded every question didn't he with things like wait and see.
Morning Boggers, its the end of an era. However, after watching Barkley during the Italy game, I think we bloodied him in too early. I would have liked to see Lampard. No more Gerrard, Rooney, Lampard, Cole, Johnson
Hockaday and Lewis looked like scared rabbits caught in the headlights, clearly both clearly wondering how they managed to pull this one off and obvious YES men. If I thought the appointment was bad before it is confirmed with the answers and body language seen here. As for England we are simply not good enough we haven't a single world class player in the mould of RVP Suarez Robben Ronaldo and co. Every England player was decent on paper but all replaceable
Morning Doc, shame Hodgeson did not have the strength of character to drop Rooney and Gerrard for last nights match
I think Wayne will make another WC. But I agree with comments elsewhere, Cashley must be wetting himself laughing at the performance of Baines. Not sure JT would be that impressed with Jagyelka. Heyho, let's hope we can stuff Costa Rica & the Italians turn Uruguay over by 2 or 3. We'll then march on via goal difference.
Doc is spot on I think Roy did the right thing leaving the old guard at home but I believe he left the wrong old ones from the old guard at home. Cole stops the cross coming in for the balotelli goal and Terry organises the defence and shouts at Gerrard to leave that ball. Taking Glen Johnson was a huge mistake and Persisting with a poor set up ultimately cost him, it was similar to Leeds under Mcdermott tbh 1 set up and if that fails we are devoid of ideas
Draw for Italy tonight would end it and how we have played so far I can see us ending with nil points
A draw tonight Ristac just means Italy are through. Uruguay would still need to beat Italy to guarantee going through.
I know mate and costa rica would also be on 4 points meaning we are out and a win for them against us would see them through no matter what Uruguay pulled off
Worst manager award must go to Ivory Coast. How the **** can they get knocked out with that squad: Forget that Max Gradel started and played well, but look at some of these players who if in the England squad would have solved our problems: Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Sol Bamba, Tiote, Wilfreid Bony, Didier Drogba and Solaman Kalou
Horrible result for England but we should have looked after Saurez better! As for Leeds and Hockaday I say give the bloke a chance! I like what Cellino says where he states he likes to get managers from the youth coaching staff or lower league because they focus on coaching. I'm excited! No point being negative... Lets see what italian players we sign! I reckon we have a good season ahead! I'm certainly not cancelling my season ticket! MOT
What worried me about that though is that he talked about how coaches from the lower leagues are better, how at Cagliari he'd always employed coaches from the lower divisions or from his own academy and then said "I was right, I was right". If he was so right why did he sack two managers a season for twenty years ? He even looked like he was having a hard time convincing himself that he was telling the truth.
