A genuine error.... or something more??

    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-art...quad-tour-new-zealand-missing-moussa-sissoko/

New Zealand football fans are celebrating at the news that the Newcastle United squad named to travel down under next month, contains three of United’s World Cup stars, but not Moussa Sissoko, the reason as yet unknown.

However, both new signings, Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback, are both included.

The press in New Zealand have released details of the 26 man Newcastle squad, though they concede that the appearance of Debuchy, Krul and Tiote could depend on how far those players get in the World Cup.

The World Cup final is on Sunday 13 July, with Newcastle playing Australian side Sydney FC only nine days later in Dunedin. Then Wellington Phoenix four days later on 26 July in Wellington itself.

    The provisional squad Newcastle have named is;

Krul, Alnwick, Elliot, Dummett, Mapou, Santon, Tavernier, Haidara, Williamson, Steven Taylor, Debuchy, Coloccini, Colback, Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi, Bigirimana, Obertan, Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Jonas, Gouffran, Anita, Tiote, Perez, Armstrong, Campbell

Obviously things look a ‘little’ light on the striker front at the moment, even if Cisse had been fit to travel.

Newcastle fans will hope that the squad will have a far different look come the start of the season and ideally by the time they fly to New Zealand.

What a dogsh!t squad. On the plus side, we're not likely to lose anyone once relegated.

I have to say, I looked at that squad and thought "Holy ****, we look poor on paper"

Then I remember we have a world class manager who has managed to overcome these challenges and see us comfortably entrenched in mid table.

That's it then... 5 'like new' signings... plus two squad fillers.... I'd say that's quite proactive of the club to be honest.

Do we think it's a squad primed for relegation?? Is there another agenda in play here that suggests going down is in the mind of the owner and having a team of barely-capable local lads would be easy to service in the next division down, with the money made from inevitably selling Tiote, Sissoko, Debuchy and Krul more than enough to cover the additional costs??

I think it is the worst squad I have ever seen. The sheer lack of quality players is alarming.

Its when you look at that when you realise how far back we are compared to the rest.

We are in for an awful long season if we do not sign any decent 1st team players we are going to be getting whooped.

I have no excitement for this coming season. I am just happy the World Cup is on.

No as I say Mike just recognises the quality of the manager and his ability to work on a ridiculously small resource.

Some would say Mike is delusional

That particular conspiracy theory doesn't fly. The long term income stream of being in the Prem easily outweighs the one off return on selling players. I doubt that a fire sale would make up for even one season's loss of revenue

Yes, but does it matter to Mike Ashley? Don't get me wrong, it's a hugely flawed theory and surely someone worth £5.5bn isn't that thick.

Does a £100 million matter to Ashley ?

I think so, otherwise he would have sold us years ago, taken the £100 million hit and moved on.

There is no conspiracy. He just sees no need to invest wildly when he can maintain mid table mediocrity on a shoe string. He is a great business man, probably one of the few to ever run a PL football club at a profit. As long as the roulette ball continues to fall in the slot he has bet on, alls good in the hood.

Yes, but as I've said, the profits of Newcastle make no odds to him whatsoever. He doesn't take the money back, he doesn't want the loan repaid, so there are no shareholders to take advantage of profit. The only benefit to being profitable is twofold - to avoid FFP sanctions (we're miles away from that) and to reinvest in the playing side (which we seem unfathomably averse to). To a point, I don't mind so much if he repaid himself £50m!! I'd fcking hate it, of course, but there's sod all we can do and I think I'd prefer it to the smoke & mirrors we get at the moment. If we're just sat on money but with the squad above, then I just don't get that at all.

It is highly probable that all players involved in the WC will still be on holiday, and the longer their country remains in the tournament the more likely it is.
Tiote, Krul and Debuchy will only have been named provisionally to help the hosts sell tickets, but, they'll not be there.

Being realistic, they have to be on holiday until the beginning of August, otherwise we can expect them being burnt out before the season even starts.

I think "like new signings" actually means "playing like they met yesterday" which I think is actually a pretty good description.

If the money is being stockpiled to pay the loans, I think he'll do it in one hit. If fans see 'their hard earned money' being taken out every season - even if it is to balance the books after we overspent for so many seasons - they would probably walk away en mass. Another season or two of frugality and flogging our best players and I could see a huge loan repayment. After that who knows. Like you say though we just don't know what the intention is.

I would have loved to see them play Brisbane who had this league title sewn up four weeks before the end of the season, whereas Sydney and Wellington were nowhere
