Regardless, it’s representative of the leap forward in stature our club has made.

Nationals speculating is one thing, but other clubs’ fans believing we’ll win the race to sign Lescott demonstrates changing attitudes.

Our status as a club does increase as we are linked with bigger name players, but it also deceases when we are linked with players past their best.
One day we will have a player leave a big six club, who says, " I have always wanted to play for Hull City." Or is that just wishful thinking?

Word from the Midlands is that Joleon Lescott is due for a medical at West Brom tomorrow. They've hijacked City's move.

Amongst an entire plethora of 'Lescott to Hull' articles, this is the only one saying he's going to the baggies.

    http://www.expressandstar.com/sport...-brom-set-to-hijack-move-for-joleon-lescott/?

And other than them stating he's booked for a medical tomorrow (he could well be) it just seems to be based on an entire framework of linking people together and guesswork.

    Could be true though...

I imagine we were offering very tasty wages to Lescott, probably right at the brink of what we can manage.

If they've gazumped us I hope we reach a point where it's judged insane to keep on competing, and look elsewhere.

Bit of a shame, but he's just one man, let's not lose the plot over him.

I aren't fussed about Lescott at all, as stated earlier in this thread. I think he's over rated, so in my opinion, if we miss out and we're not committed to another obscene monthly salary for the next 2-3 years then that's great.

Lescott would be a solid acquisition but I certainly wouldn't put to much of our wage kitty in to getting him here.

If he doesn't want to come then he doesn't want to come, simples. We are a club in transition, holding our own in the premier league last season and now we are competing in Europe. It's vital that we don't overspend on one player and I would rather see Hull spread the cost over 2-3 signings with potential and a future (not almost 32 years of age and at the end of their career looking for one last pay day).

Bullard springs to mind and by no means am I saying Lescott is a crock I just feel as though we can get better value for money and strengthen in other areas.

If you read it properly I didn't say Lescott is a crock, I'm talking about wages and value for money.

How do you know he didn't read it properly? He didn't really make any comment that suggests how he read it.

Give up on this forum, can't even do one post without an argument or w4nkers trying to pick at your posts.

YES I am comparing him to Bullard in terms of value for money and his situation.

So you can pick at his post but people can't pick at yours? Nice double standards there.

Potential is all well and good, but it's pointless spending a pot of cash on players that will be world class in five years time, when we're in the Premier League and Europe right now. If they aren't up to standard now, then we shouldn't be interested. Yes, our youth set up is naff and it will need addressing, but the priority must be to strengthen the first team with players ready to play now and only after sustained success should we start building up other areas of the club.

I really wish people would stop thinking about age and sell on values of players when transfer rumours come up. It's their ability and cost now that matters, we don't know what's going to happen 2-3 years down the line; we could be in League 1 for all we know. In an ideal world we'd have a first XI of 18 year olds who are already world class and would sell on for £50m each. But we don't. Live in the present.
