As it is a very quite Friday how do we feel about Durham Cricket Club? Do you as a matter of local pride support them as the local club or do you not give a toss? I always try to show support for any club or individual from the region when they are playing any sport. With Durhan doind so well it can only be good for the region. Any thoughts?
I've been a few times. Like me cricket. Gutted cos I've had an offer from DCCC to but tickets for the Ashes match up here - know I can't afford them. x
I agree at £75 a ticket and food and drink at inflated prices you w2ill spend over £100 a day! Still on the bright side you can drink your beer in your seat. Should we allow beer to be drunk at your seat in the SOL?
Never been yet, but do take a keen interest in their results. I also take a special interest in young Borthwick because I know his dad very well.
Borthwick looks a good lad. That is one good thing about the Club they do seem to bring good young uns through. They seem to have good links with the local clubs and there coaching set ups.
I live in Fram so it's very close to me - have friends who have "season tickets" (or whatever they're called for cricket) and have been a few times - watched Durham win the County Champs the other year and really enjoyed it - basically I like cricket but being able to watch cricket and get slowly pissed in the sunshine is very appealing to me!!
His dad, and his dads brother were also both decent cricketers and played most of their cricket for Ryhope. His dad was also a decent footballer, and we played together on the same school team (Ryhope School).
I played with them both for when they played for Whitburn about 10 years ago. Dave was a quality wicket keeper and if I remember rightly George used to try and smash everything out of the ground!
I think by then George will have been carrying a fair bit of extra weight and probably couldn't be arsed to run..
Haha sounds about right mate, think by that point in his 'career' his philosophy was the further he hit the ball, the less running involved and the sooner he got to the bar!
I know that Washington and Ryhope have good youth set ups at the moment what about other clus and are there any good kids comming through?
It's a 10 minute walk down the road for me. Normally get to 6-8 games a season. It's good for the region and in particular chester le street. Pubs are chocka after the international games!
As a proud Chesta lad born and bred as it were, the day that DCCC announced that the Riverside Stadium was going to be in the fair hamlet of Chester le Street, on the banks of the worlds greatest river, it brought a tear of joy to my eyes. Been quite a few times over the eyars and they keep improving it so it gets better and better. Also, DCCC are the Man utd of domestic cricket these days and its great to see them topping the league again this season. It has to be one of the finest stadiums in the world of Cricket and the setting is amazing if I say so myself. Get yersels along and give the Wearsiders a shout and abuse any craas that turn up while you're there. Lol
