Like Bob have done a Kingman,Toronado & Shea Shea treble 17:00 Ascot - Sir Graham Wade- 16/1 ew Followed this horse over a cliff a couple of times last year and have not backed him this year (luckily) but I feel fairly confident about him tomorrow. Was fairly successful in 2012 but did not back it up and improve last year and has bit of work to do given his last 2 runs this year but has cheekipieces on for the 1st time. Has now dropped to 0-95 handicap company and even tho carrying top weight at 16/1 over a trip you know he will stay and will suit this. To a T he is surely to big and is definitely good enough to run into the places at the very least.
My picks for Ascot tomorrow: 2:30 - Toranado Evens 3:05 - Kasb 20/1 3:45 - Shea Shea 4/1 4:25 - Kingman Evens 5:00 - Lietentant Miller 10/1 - Sir Graham Wade 14/1 - Villa Royale 16/1 5:35 - Haxby 14/1 - Harry Hurricane 40/1 Rev/Combi fc/tc on races with more than one
Anodin 12/1 looks to be getting the hang of things, they are just starting to work him out now and hes a much better horse than his figures imply. That was a good run behind Cirrus Des Aigles last time and everything looks perfect for a big run tomorrow. The Wow Signal 13/2 in the Coventry after an Ayr maiden win, tells you all you need to know, he won that race not far off half a second faster than the following handicap for older sprinters, carrying 5 pounds more than the winner, the 2nd beaten 9L has since hacked up in a maiden by 6L and the 3rd beaten 20L came out and won a maiden at Goodwood by 2L. I dont think this is a particularly strong Coventry, Hamdans looks quite smart and id have respect for Capella Sansevero but you just dont see maidens like that very often and The Wow Signal could be a serious 2yo this season.
Tornado / Kingman 2 obvious fancies - plus a big price on the 5.00 - Asbaab currently 28s with bet £3.65 - hanaghan the managan on board for Meehan - going on Thursday through work and can't wait
Unfortunately, the Queen Anne Stakes has attracted a less than competitive field. Richard Hughes has been bullish about the chances of top-rated Toronado and he will be as fit as Hannon can get him at home; however, Verrazano does have race fitness on his side, but is his remote third to Olympic Glory in the Lockinge good enough to make him a challenger after a career on dirt over The Pond? Tullius was second but he never had a chance either. Soft Falling Rain really does not want slow ground and his second to Variety Club at Meydan is not going to get him close to the favourite. If there is going to be an upset, could it be d’Ispahan runner-up Anodin? The Coventry Stakes always looks impossible as the market is usually formed around the runners from the yards known for their early season two year olds rather than any credible form lines. The last couple of years, a Ballydoyle representative has been amongst the favourites but last year the stable’s other runner bolted up. This is just one to watch with an eye to the future. If something bolts up it will be favourite for the 2015 Guineas by five o’clock and nowhere to be seen in May 2015. Hot Streak could well be the champion sprinter in waiting going into the King’s Stand Stakes. I burned my fingers on him first time up at Newmarket but he atoned with a good win at Haydock. In receipt of lumps of weight from the ordinary bunch of older sprinters (there has not been a top draw champion from this hemisphere in years), he looks the bet of the day to take the prize Up North for Kevin Ryan. Shea Shea and Sole Power (better on fast ground) should give him most to do. The big showdown in the St James’s Palace Stakes has been the only discussion in the run up and I do expect this to come down to Kingman and Night Of Thunder as there is no obvious reason to believe that any of those that were behind at Newmarket (Toormore, War Command, Outstrip) are going to reverse the form. I still think that Night Of Thunder may be seen at his best over ten furlongs and Kingman may show him a clean pair of heels like he did at Newbury. Punters will be hoping that Ascot have not got their photo finish equipment from the same people that supply the goal line technology at the World Cup or the judge is going to be giving some very suspicious results.
Thirsk 410 I was going to put the FLYCATCHER up sunday at double figures only for a withdrawal but on checking why I realised they have a better chance in this one 10/3 looks very generous . Fahey looks to have made a shrewd move on sunday !
Why is Oisin not on Hot Streak? Shame really, would fancy it more with Oisin on board as opposed to Spencer, never know what you're gunna get with Spencer, could give it a fantastic ride or completely balls it and get boxed in and come too late
Jamie Spencer is the retained rider to the owner. The kid Murphy got the ride at Haydock because Spencer was over in Ireland that day. Hopefully he will have watched the video, taken a lesson from the youngster and will get it right in front of the Royal box!
