Out of hospital. Canny what they can do these days on BUPA platinum package. Nee more racing for him. Former Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher is no longer in a coma and has left hospital after a ski accident last December. The 45-year-old has been in an induced coma since suffering a serious head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps resort of Meribel in December. His management company said in a statement: "Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore. http://news.sky.com/story/1283224/schumacher-out-of-coma-and-leaves-hospital
Bit vague, but great news. He's one of my sporting heroes, rarely has a sportsman been so far greater than his peers, and he was ruthless in his will to win. Legend.
I think he's a cheating kernt, but I'm glad he's got better. Wouldn't wish what he went through on anyone...
I think so. You can't just mark it with titles etc, you have to look at the bigger picture. Whereas Vettel, unquestionably a great driver, has won the title largely in part to a great team and dominant car, Schumi won it in a Benetton, a Bennetto for christs sake. Given the strength of Williams at the time it was just an incredible achievment, and that is what marks him down as the best ever, for me. He did that on pure ability.
A Benetton with Ross Brawn at the helm don't forget. The same man who, with no cash, bolted a Mercedes engine into a car designed for a Toyota(?) engine and won Jenson Button a world championship. Behind every great driver is, usually, a great team. Schumi & Brawn, Vettel & Newey. Anyway, I wish him well.
True to a point mate, but they had no budget or straight line speed, Brawn's aero's obviously would have helped massively in the corners, but without question Schumacher made that car a winning car, the man was sensational.
I'd agree with that and you only have to remember, Schumacher's team mate then was Johnny Herbert who iirc only won 1 or 2 races in 1995 and Schumacher's main rival for the title was Damon Hill, Schui won twice as many races as Hill that season... Legend is often over used, it's not at all with Schumacher.
exactly right mate, and lets not forget Hill was driving a Williams car that was streets ahead of the Benetton. Schumacher was incredible first time round.
Agreed Schumacher was the outstanding driver of his generation. The technical aspect of F1 fascinates me though. The main protagonists being Brawn and Newey during this era. Brawn built cars to be reliable first then made them fast. Newey the purist (and at Williams during the Schuey/Benetton era, I think) designed fast cars that often broke before the end of the race they were so fragile. The point I'm trying to make is that to finish first, first you have to finish. Therefore, Schuey, as great as he was, still needed the right car under him.
Nah. Ayrton Senna for me, the best always push the car past it's limits, not to it's limits. Great news about Schu though, didn't see that coming tbh.
