SAFC legend Kevin Phillips has revealed he would like to manage the Black Cats. The former striker, who retired from professional football last month, made the announcement while speaking to adoring fans at the Queen Victoria Hotel, in Roker. About 150 SAFC supports packed out the venue on Thursday to meet the ex-player, who scored 30 goals for Sunderland in the 1999 to 2000 season, winning him the European Golden Shoe. Phillips, who has eight England caps, is set to take up a first team coaching position at Leicester City next season. But he said his six years on Wearside were âthe best of his careerâ. âI would have loved to have played 10 or 15 years at this football club,â he said. âEverything I kicked seemed to touch the back of the net. âI like to think I was born to score goals. âHopefully, if I make a name for myself as a manager, maybe one day I could manage Sunderland.â Super Kev said he has no plans for a testimonial match after announcing his retirement, although he reformed his legendary striking partnership with former SAFC chairman Niall Quinn for ex-Sunderland defender Jody Craddockâs testimonial match last month.
