Sunderland are willing to cash in on Steven Fletcher this summer. According to The Sunderland Echo Fletcher, a £12m Martin OâNeill signing, scored only 3 times in an injury-disrupted campaign and the club might listen to offers if an acceptable one is made. Fletcher has been linked with Celtic, Hull City and in the past. Not sure he'd be missed myself like, probs looking at yet another financial loss
Can't see anyone wanting to pay more than £5m for him which would be a joke. Fit and interested he's worth keeping. Question marks against both for me....
I think it's possible the club may already have written off the cost of these players in the books so on paper there may not be the hit your expecting. But yes, in cash terms, it's true to say we've overpaid on many players in the last 6-8 years. I'm just hoping ES has learned a few lessons over the years, is prepared to accept what's done is done and, to some extent, start building from scratch again with Gus at the helm.
If we can get him fit and focused then there is a premier league quality player there I wouldn't rush into offloading at a huge loss
That`s the point but his contribution has been minimal. I would suggest keeping him for now, see what his fitness is like and offload in January. Can`t see how we`d be any worse off that way.
Is it going into the last year of his contract? If so we cant afford to drag int on till january as he'll do a colback and see out his contract and go get a nice sign on fee and inflated wage somewhere else
I'm going to sit on the fence on this one. Most on here know my opinion on Jozy - I don't think he's good enough. If we got rid of Fletcher, got Wickham signed up to a long term deal and kept Jozy as a bencher for Wickham to try to change things then that wouldn't be too bad. But if we got rid of Fletcher and kept Jozy as our main man - I completely agree with you.
I seriously still believe that if Jozy has a half decent WC, and trains well and has a good pre season I think we may see a different Jozy.
For what any club would offer for Fletcher, maybe better of holding onto him, and hope he has an injury free spell. A fit on form Fletcher is a good player.
Depends on Fletch this, There were whispers that he wanted off, if so he's welcome to leave for me, if not knuckle down. He's still got two years to run so we don't need to sell. But I don't want him here unless he's fit, injury free and giving 100%
