Newcastle have made a ‘concrete approach’ for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, according to le10sport

Long-term Newcastle target Clement Grenier has received as many as three serious proposals from English clubs in the last couple of days.

The first is said to be from the Magpies themselves, however both Everton and Southampton have also approached the 23-year-old.

There is also interest from the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen having run the rule over the Frenchman, however the Germans have not registered any formal interest at this stage.

Lyon’s ongoing financial woes coupled with Grenier’s unhappiness at the departure of manager Remi Garde means it’s a near certainty that the set-piece specialist will be on the move this summer. However it could take a fee in the region of £10million to bring him to Tyneside and whether Ashley would be willing to pay that remains to be seen.

If Everton and Southampton are in for him then they will probably have made sensible offers. We'll have offered 2million Euros and the legend that is Obertan.

It makes me sad that Obertan is still a Newcastle player.

Hope we get Grenier though. You never know....

Southampton are imploding, we don't need to fear them. Anybody else being in for him though, and we're second choice.

    Why aren't we offering money?
We'll get nowhere just offering concrete.
    Could get messy.

Knowing Mike we're leaving the cement out of it. We're just offering ballast.

I'd like to think this was to force a few hands in our cabella or other dealings but that is just wild optimism based on four stellas and ching.

Maybe, but there's three things to that situation. Their owner is the daughter of the chap who actually bought and wanted the club (and she has a lot less interest in backing the club apparently), and Cortese was the apparent genius, and when he left, that destabilized the dressing room and is rumoured to be the reason all the players want to leave, and why Poch jumped at the Spurs job.

There's a worse smell hanging about that club than their is at ours <yikes> and that's with Fredor hanging about outside our gates like a lepper hoping some kind sole will eventually take him in to see a proper team.

If we really do sign this chap I'll get my waxed arse out in Fenwicks window while wearing an 'I love Gus' t shirt and red lipstick.

Were we actually to sign him and if he were to reach that level, then we can rest assured that MA would look to sell him at the soonest opportunity.

23rd troop Brownies have made an offer of a home made clay ashtray, a night out with Brown Owl, and a 4th hand copy of a Bay City Rollers album..so that's us well and truly beaten and out-bidded.
..But from their perspective they will sign a very very good midfielder, and a dab hand at arts and crafts ..
