    <ok>

Also some decent odds on the first person to be shown a card and Nigeria to miss a penalty.

Gary Lineker has boldly stuck out his neck to pick the winners. "Either Brazil, Argentina, Spain, or Germany". I wish I had that amount of insight. No wonder he is a highly paid pundit.

Had £20 on draw ht Brazil ft at 11/4 so £55 profit so far, also got a tenner on Neymar top scorer and Brazil to win it at 16's so not a bad start. Need Ivory Coast to win their group for £900.

Great stuff, Doc. I think the ref had a bet on Brazil as well.

Terrible penalty decision. No idea why FIFA appointed a ref from Japan, where the average league game is watched by 6 grasshoppers.

Am I alone in thinking that ITV's coverage is too bad to be true? You need subtitles to understand their pundits Cannavaro and Viera, and if anything, Ian Wright's English is even worse <ok>

I cannot abide Clive Tyldlsley, who must spend weeks locked in the garden shed carefull polishing his cliches. The "dove from above" <peacedove> one last night was particularly cringeworthy.

Corals did a special bet yesterday - offering 2/1 that Brazil would play in yellow shirts last night <ok>. There was one small catch to getting this 'free money'. You had to open an on line account with them ('Connect'), and put some money in. The oldest trick in the book. You win easy money & think 'this gambling game is easy'...and then proceed to do your bollox.

I am sure that Clive said yesterday "for those of you watching in black and white, Brazil are wearing the yellow shirts...... perhaps he was talking to Newcastle fans?"

I did this for Quevega's win months ago when they were offering 4/1. Never used my coral account since, so had to open another one up under the missus to get the 2/1. Withdrew the money this morning and that's another obsolete Coral account. Some extra betting funds for next week, though there was a £10 limit on the bet.

    Good move <ok>

I noticed that the odds on a 3-1 Brazil win last night were a laughable 9/1 <laugh>
This is how the High St bookies make their money - sneakily boosting their margins as the 'one bet in every four years' type of punter has a dabble on the World Cup. You really need to use the Oddschecker site as well as having a few accounts handy to stay ahead of them.

Any Brazil victory last night was awful. I went as far as looking down at 4-0 and 4-1, and the jump in price for a Croatia goal was huge. 12/1 for 4-0, 28/1 for 4-1.

William Hill are offering 12/1 on all 6 teams scoring tonight. Not the greatest odd's, but I said to a colleague weeks back that I think this WC will be full of goals - and every team tonight is more than capable of scoring against their opposition. Will use £5 of last night's winning on that.

Put £25 on Chile -1 tonight at 6/5. I like both teams to score and Spain to win at 9/2. No idea on Cameroon Mexico, may leave that one.

I'd say Mexico have more ''danger men'', but there is a strong rumour going around that Hernandez won't start.

Cameroon look decent in midfield, but also very slow. I'd guess at Mexico (who are in an enhanced treble with Chile and Spain at 6/1) winning, but always tough to gauge on the first game.

I thought for such a young team that the Aussies did very well, Chile caused England all sorts of problems a few months ago yet with a bit of luck the Aus could easily have won.

Nice touch for Holland to wear Scotland shirts in their opening game of the World Cup but shouldn't they have put their own badges on rather than just leave Scotland's Lion rampant?
