Let's get commentary back to that!!! he simply tells you what is happening unlike today's lot who try to force feed you their opinions. There are up to 30 seconds of just silence. Sadly a lost art as these days they all seem determined to force feed us an agenda. All brazilians are great. All Englishmen are disappointing etc. Wolstenholme should be studied by all commentators and we should get back to proper commentating. As the old catch phrase saying goes, say what you see.
Also bearing in mind the final was in England. We were winning 2-1 and one of the cb passed back to the keeper and the whole stadium booed followed by the chant we want three! That's what we want to see! Fans chastising their own players for time wasting. A purer time of football.
I do not need the likes of Andy Townsend telling me (4 times) what I`ve just seen. A good commentator does not need back up.
Spot on grandpops. Listening to Wolstenholme he just makes it easy. We all know our football we don't need an insight from an ex pro which is just an opinion, I'd rather nothing.
There`s a lot of unfamiliar names on the field Tony. As long as the commentator tells me who`s passing to who that`s enough. I can see everything else for myself. A studio analysis by the pundits afterwards, that`s fine, but a constant repetition by someone who really has nothing to add irritates the hell out of me.
I just thank my stars that we do not have studio pundits over here, the game games on 5 mins before KO and finishes before the interviews. Watching all those fancy studio screens then having ex-players saying what they would have done drove me up the wall. Subutteo at best.
In the Middle East we Have Richard Key and that oxygen thief Andy Gray, now, there's two people who can ruin a world cup for the viewer.
The thing I find most embarrassing is when the commentator says "Welbeck" for example when he means "Sturridge". Ah, he's black and around the same height, so you got them the wrong way round, just gonna let that one slide are we? Once yes, twice ok, all match though... know your black folk for crying out loud! It's embarrassing.
What gets me is the sheer inanity of what the co-commentators come out with. "Team A's left back's best friend's dog walker's tennis partner once had a trial at team B, so that's added extra spice to this game." WTF man...

for me its because he's not a football man, so shouldnt be fronting a football show, especially a world cup, i'll watch most of this on bbc tbh, saying that i do like tyldsley (sometimes), depends on wether or not townsend pipes up in fact should we not merge this thread?????
