    Taken from SkySports

We are hearing that Sunderland are weighing up a bid to hijack Newcastle's move for French striker Bafetimbi Gomis. Newcastle have been regarded favourites to land Gomis, who is a free agent, after holding a long-term interest in the former Lyon striker. However, North-East rivals Sunderland are ready to join the chase for Gomis as Gus Poyet looks to bring in a new striker to the Stadium of Light.

Well I suppose we have some room on the wage bill after Jack left... <laugh>

In all seriousness though do we really want him? Seems he'll cost a fair whack (in terms of sign-on fee / wages), he'll be 29 before the season starts, and hasn't exactly been prolific in France... What's all the fuss about?

He'll go to whoever offer the most £££££££££. Also, does the fact that he looks like a masculine Tracey Chapman mean nothing to you?!?

In his prime, worth a two year contract with a hefty wage, Any longer then the wages would have to come right down beneath his demands. He's never going to bag 100k a week he's dreaming. Bout 60-65k a week would be fair over two years so we're not lumbered when he starts his decline.

From here in Geneva, I follow French football very closely and can assure everyone that Gomis is very ordinary at this level.
This would be a complete waste of money. I rate Kenwyn Jones higher as this type of striker.
    Loïc Rémy? Oh oui!!

I'd be over the moon if he went to sunderland. There's threads on a couple of Newcastle boards and he'd be as popular as the signing of Colback. i.e. Not very.

    Average overpaid mercenary.

You and us have two squads of them man <laugh>

    Where's the loyalty?

We have players who'd rather sit on the bench than drop a few quid and play elsewhere.

You have French blokes who look like they're on a ****ing prison sentence and desperate for parole.

Am I alone in hoping this is hoss ****e?

He is exactly the sort of character we don't need and he isn't that good actually. Would rather have a proven player who has some connection to us, like Borini.
