Without wanting to turn this into another name shortening thread, I think it would be damaging as, given the outrage from the British footballing press and public, there's every chance any company in partnership with the club if it went ahead would be seen as condoning the change and rip off of British football tradition and could be perceived negatively because of it. I think any serious companies wouldn't want to be involved, only the desperate.
Who is talking about companies? This is about transfer targets. Players do not care about the name change issue. At all.
They probably don't, but I think the more Allam comes across as a crazy bastard Vincent Tan type the harder it will be to attract players (without paying over the odds).
Everything in Happy's world is rosy if it is connected with the Allams. I am not criticising Ehab but just cannot help be amused by the devotion shown by Happy.
Apologies. Teaches me to pay more attention. I'll admit that as soon as I see a post of yours so much as mention the name change I don't bother reading it. Sorry
Luckily its Ehab and not his dad acting as Chairman then eh? Your average footballer is only really likely to be interested in how much, how often will I play and what ambition the club has. The 3rd one there will likely appeal to a minority though. Oh the good old "I'm not..." statement. Sure, I'm perfectly happy for Ehab to act as our Chairman, his dad in all honesty deserves to relax a little, and enjoy the fruits of his hard work, and going forward, Ehab needs to be ready and willing to take on this particular mantle. If you can think of a better chairman than Ehab, that's realistic, share it with us. Be as bemused as you like, personally I despair at the close-mindedness of people like you who just hate everything for no good reason. No worries. You've missed loads more gems from me sadly in that case
I think AA should relax completely, stand down as chairman and let Ehab take over, then we can bin the name change nonsense and move on.
Does the article suggest we're bringing 5 or 6 in full stop? We need more as we stand to lose four as it stands. Fryatt, Proschwitz, Faye and Livermore. I'd also look at moving a couple of players on and replacing them with better or younger (to eventually develop) I read the article to assume we were bringing in 5 or 6 before 31 July... there's still a month of transfer activity left at this point. Should we qualify we'll be looking to play almost a season and a half's worth of games... hopefully. I would hope we're looking to strengthen before Europe and then should things go well before September, look to flesh out the squad with sone good additions that act as excellent cover or improve us further. The money needed for this would be determined by how much we stand to make for a good European run. Going into next season with potentially 1 or 2 extra numbers could be risky with the odd injury.
TWF - players will be concerned with the following in this order What is my salary Will the manager be sacked during the season - meaning I may not get 1st team football under the new guy/girl Will I be 1st choice What are the local babes like Will I be playing in Europe to put me in the shop window in case I don't like it at club x Thoughts on the chairman is unlikely to be in the thoughts of any typical intelligence footballer
Allam loves telling us how lucky we are that he doesn't try to manage the team but that's bollocks and you've bought it unsurprisingly. There's only really Cardiff, and now West Ham I can think of where the owner interferers with running the team, yet ironically you defend Tan for it just because there's obvious parallels with Allam and you don't want to be disloyal to the mental owners' union. Abramovich used to interfere until Jose went back there, who now gets his own way. Allam is similar, he lets Brucey run his team now but that really wasn't the case with Barmby and Pearson. There's plenty of well-run PL clubs where the manager manages, the majority in fact. Assem is the chairman. Ehab is no better anyway. He's less mental but still has to do what his dad says, even if Assem stepped down completely he couldn't reverse his dad's decisions. The thing I really don't like about him though is unlike his dad he's a good liar. He actually convinces people when he's talking ****.
I'm not sure about that, he's certainly better with his presentation, but in that Burnsy interview, he didn't even sound like he'd convinced himself, never mind anyone else.
Note to Happy - you can't say "100% doubtful".. you can say "100% certain" and even though I sound pedantic since this is the football world, let's go with "110% certain" eh?
I always get the image of Assem being the mental one and Ehab having to try and calm his poor dad down. I picture Assem in a massive armchair screaming "I want a team of REAL TIGERS!!" "No dad, we're not aloud REAL tigers" "BUT I WANT TIGERS PLAYING FOOTBALL AGAINST POLO PLAYERS" "We might be able to CALL them Hull Tigers" "Can we genetically grow players with Tiger like qualities? The Chinese will love that!!!" "No dad. Thats against the rules..." "Fine, but I want people on horses!" "Fine. I'll talk to the board."
http://www.theguardian.com/football/football-league-blog/2010/sep/09/how-to-run-football-club Happy, If I commented on the Southampton forum, I would be posting exactly the same about their "new" board. they will find it hard this summer. It isn't about liking or disliking anyone it is all about having an experienced team around you to deal with transfers and being able get in the right players for the right money.
To be fair though, looking at Long and Jelavic's wages the 1st one shouldn't be a problem and it's INCREDIBLEY unlikely the Allams would sack Brucey. (touch wood)
