According to Fifa's Dear Leader any criticism of Fifa's decision to award Qatar the 2022 World Cup is racist. Just as a matter of interest, is there a single person on the planet who believes that the decision to award Qatar the World Cup was not corrupt?

I think Blatter doesn't think it was corrupt, simply because he has been taking and giving back handers so long he doesn't realise it is corruption

It used to be jingoism that was the last refuge of a scoundrel but Blatter has lowered the bar.

The funny thing is that the person in world football who has faced the most allegations of corruption is a white European.

Also nice how he's got the CAF to do the distraction job for him.

So what if Qatar is a tiny, super-rich nation where the climate is completely unsuited to outdoor sport in summer. I think it's fair to say the small selection of voters have correctly awarded Qatar the event over the other bidders, with their existing stadiums, infrastructure, fanbase and suitable climates.

The whole management of football, at league, national and international level, makes me sick. I think it is too far gone to ever be cleaned up.

Back in the fifties and early sixties, my brother and I used to bemoan the public school toffs who ran the FA, and their constant bickering with the small-town businessmen like Bob Lord who ran the Football League.

Classic case of being careful what you wish for. At least those guys, for all their petty-mindedness and conservatism, were genuine lovers of the game.

Only hope now is for the North-Western European nations to pull out of the FA and start their own federation.

Be carefull what you wish for, begs the whole fishy question of who might step into Sepp Blatter's shoes. The whole 'Quatar' thing really shows FIFA to be as corrupt an organisation as you could hope to meet, so any replacement for Sepp would probably be someone equally well versed in back handers, bribes, bungs and the like. Let's just sell the organisation to Duchalet and put Jose Riga in charge.

A bit harsh on the FA? or did you mean FIFA?

Also, it is a bit strong Bloater talking about racism in conection with Qatar... if you ever go there and see how they treat people from the Asian sub continent :(.... Slavery is alive and kicking in the oil rich arab states! How many Sri Lankans have already died building the tourist attraction that Qatar wishes to become.

When Bloater leaves FIFA he will be a very rich man indeed, just like his predecessor!

Nothing more than a desperate statment made by a man seriously on the ropes.

The man is a cancer in this sport we all love and needs to be removed from it asap.

This is the most infuriating aspect of FIFA. His last challenger turned out to be even worse than St Sepp. He received a standing ovation when he made his racism accusation to an African audience, and seems well on course to break his promise not to stand for another term, so he will carry on in his own bubble regardless of what the fans think. What do they matter? The Sunday Times did a brilliant job in tracking down the trail of corruption, but with his racism jibe he has dismissed all the detailed evidence. He says that this enquiry by some American lawyer will be the end of the matter, and sounds quite confident of the outcome. I wonder why? And there seems to be absolutely nothing that anyone can do about it.

Ah, but will he leave Fifa, or will he die in office, like J. Edgar Hoover, who no president could sack because he had too much dirt on all of them?

Blatter made the remarks to an African FIFA audience because he is relying on their block vote to get him re elected next year. The African branch of FIFA (Jack Warner might just as well be an honorary member) is a brilliant example of precisely why Africa itself is a failed continent, and always will be. The "leaders" of that continent are either bone stupid (Goodluck Jonathan, Jacob Zuma etc) or greedy & corrupt (Amin, Kuanda, Mugabe etc etc), or in many cases, both.

I would downgrade Africa & Warner's tiny island to associate membership of FIFA, and weight their votes according to their net financial contribution to the game in general. They are a continent of takers.

It's easy. Accuse your doubters of being racist, and you begin to put them on the level of Nazi's. With a bit of luck, the whole thing is deflected away. I'm only suprised he did'nt simply imply an English plot out of jelousy for not being awarded the tournament, but give it time.
The sad thing is his little flourish of the racism card shows how little interest he has in investigating bribes. Which does tend to suggest he knows where the investigation would lead. Really, it's time to oust him or, as said before, europe to join forces with South America and leave him to wallow in the 2026 Trinidad World Cup.

If the American Lawyer finds no evidence of any wrong doing during his investigation then you can expect the 2026 World Cup to be in the Good O'l USA <ok>

Oh, and a nice little something in his stocking at Christmas!

Now I was listening to Talk****e at lunchtime and they had Michael Warshaw a football politics 'expert' who was listening to Blatter's speech in Sao Paulo but left to go live on the radio.

His take was: Blatter already knows that the American's report will exonerate him otherwise he wouldn't be saying he's going to stand for a fifth term.

He also reckons that Blatter didn't vote for Qatar.

Now make of that what you will - just don't shoot the messenger!
