He did have a reputation for coming out with excuses after a loss, but he obviously doesn't do it now, either he's changed or it was a myth that he did it in the first place. I think the negativity mainly came from a reputation for club hopping in the past and his final season at Sunderland being a bit of a disaster. I think being at a club without ridiculous expectations suits his style, he looked really uncomfortable when things started turning to **** at Sunderland.
I had to google Pete Chapman, iv'e never heard of him. Turns out he's an honorary president. What's an honorary president ?
BBC Humberside Sport ‏@HumbersideSport 25s #Hull City have told us they've had no approach from #Southampton for boss Steve Bruce. More on @RadioHumberside at breakfast. #hcafc
Who's Bob Chapman ? Is it that bloke who had terminal cancer, got well again, then won the Grand National on Alderniti ?
http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Asse...es-Hull-City/story-16321862-detail/story.html HULL City owner Assem Allam hopes the appointment of Steve Bruce as manager will finally convince fans he is determined to make the club a success. Despite ploughing £51m into the Tigers since saving the club from oblivion in December 2010, Allam has faced repeated questioning from supporters over their ambition. However, having now landed his "number one target" in the 51-year-old former Sunderland boss, Allam said the appointment was "evidence" of his ambition. "I hope our fans realise now that I didn't only intend to save the club. I hope this is evidence of my ambition to take the club to the Premier League and also stay there," Allam said. "The fact I have already spent £51m has not stopped me from wanting to make the club one of the best in English football. "It did not deter me from looking at getting the best available. I want a club that will go forward and a club for everybody here to be proud of." Allam said he had specific qualities in mind when starting to seek a replacement for the sacked Nick Barmby last month. And he said Bruce emerged as his personal front-runner within a week of the process starting. "Not only was I looking for a manager with experience of taking clubs into the Premier League, I wanted more than that," he said. "I wanted someone with this experience, but also the experience of keeping the club in the Premier League. "It was not easy getting a manager of that calibre, and we are lucky to have Steve Bruce here today. "Steve was my first choice because he ticks all the boxes. "He is a very nice character as a person. I am sure he will settle down here very quickly. "He is a man with two promotions to the Premier League, and with a record of keeping clubs there. "He is also a very modest man and a very experienced man, so what more do you want?" Allam accepted that fans had been left frustrated in recent weeks, as little information had been made public, but he said their hands had initially been tied by legal proceedings following Barmby's sacking and subsequent appeal. "I apologise to the fans who have been waiting for a few weeks to know what we were going to do, but I hope the fans will realise it was worth waiting. "The last few weeks we have been working day and night on this, through the Bank Holiday. "It's not easy, as I said, to get someone like Steve, and I tell you it was very expensive, but Steve is worth all the money." Aww see he does love you.
I think my excuse will be that I'd listened to the Sunderland fans too much. Since then they've continued to turn on every manager they get, so it's now obvious it was never about Bruce and only about their expectations. He loves boasting that he's never apologised to anyone. Another metaphor I guess.
