<laugh> Hardly a technique wizard is he? Are Southampton planning on scraping decent football?

With Cortese & Pochettino gone, maybe they've changed their philosophy

He may have said he wants away from Hull but that doesn't mean he'll get the job.

Whatever the case it'll be funny to see the Hull supporters twisting & turning.

TBH, Hull are due to start playing again next month, they scraped relegation and have a boring ongoing internal battle dragging on.

Bruce may be a dinosaur but he doesn't want to become extinct on Humberside.

I doubt he'll risk another relegation battle when people would just think he's reverting to type.

There is one bloke on that thread that reckons Bruce would not go to Saints because they are not really much better than Hull at the moment, utter delusion. Gifting them 6 points this season really was the low point for us this season despite some other really shocking performances.

Got to feel for Saints fans though

Manager goes....ok we can handle that, plenty more fish in the sea and big names always want to come to the Prem for a crack at it
Best players may be sold.....ok, look on the bright side, loads of cash for the new man to build his own team
Steve Bruce is appointed......pass the paracetamol and the razor blades

Southampton are going to lose the guts of that team this close season. Only a really stupid manager would want that gig.

    Steve, you got a minute?.......

They'll be claiming it's all just paper talk despite Bruce saying he wants out.

The Saints fans would like Ronald Koeman but they'd rather have Ronald McDonald than Bruce <laugh>

We accuse Bruce of being obsessed with Sunderland, and not being able to let go of the past. Reading this, it does seem to be the other way round. For the record, I liked Bruce. During the days where he got it right for us we played some pretty decent football and had some decent players to boot. On balance, he deserved to be sacked as we were going down. The fact that he left us with a bunch of players who were verging on the dross is annoying and further backs up the valid of why he was sacked, but overall he did ok for us and it was clear that he cared about the club and about doing well. He has gone to Hull and they are having their own magic carpet ride at the moment. I suspect many of the Tigers fans never expected to see a cup final in their life times so hats off to Bruce for delivering this. Let's get over the bitterness over Bruce and move on. We have Gus and I am excited about what is to come.

It's current football news on a football forum, the same thread is on other forums.

People still comment on McCarthy, DI Canio, Reidy etc so why not Bruce?

Laughing at someone and taking the piss isn't exactly an obsession to be fair.

How was it clear that he cared about the club btw?

You could see he cared, both in his face, and in his physical appearance which by the end was not good. He looked physically ill during the tougher times and the stress of it all was visible. If he didn't give a toss then he simply would have just carried on and not being stressed at all. I get the impression, and may be wrong, that Mr Bruce is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve and he was desperately trying to get it right for Sunderland. Ultimately he failed and we were going down. I suspect getting it right for us was simply beyond him for whatever reason - his ability, so called demons in the club etc. I don't know, but I do personally believe that he did care and that he just ran out of ideas on how to fix it. At times it does appear some fans are still obsessed over Bruce. I am all for taking the piss and discussing previous managers, but there is a slight obsessive over Bruce. If there is anyone who does deserve the vitriol it is PDC. He just cared about himself and his interviews often portrayed that.
