I have argued this point before, staying on for an extra day of two after a race weekend must be more cost effective.
I like the new practice idea - teams would be a lot busier on the Friday which makes it more interesting for us and also the teams would have a harder time getting the set-up right for qualifying and the race which could make things less predictable. Removing one of the pre-season tests wouldn't be a bad idea either - do the teams really need to go to Jerez? It's too cold to test there and the track surface is very abrasive. What I don't like is the ban on in-season testing. I think the FIA have done a really good job with the current in-season testing. I also like how they've combined Pirelli testing with in-season testing. The last thing F1 needs is inadequate exploding tyres because Pirelli are forced to use obsolete cars.
If they really wanted to save money, then they would ban Friday testing all together, have a 2hr Saturday morning practice and then straight to qualifying
Nicola Pohl ‏@NicolaBILD 2m Code RED for Kimi?? according to @tgruener there are rumors in paddock that Ferrari thinks about sacking Kimi Räikkönen after this season!
Tobias Grüner F1 @tgruener #F1 Rumours in Montreal paddock Ferrari might sack Raikkonen after this season. According to my info he's got a contract till end of 2015
I thought I heard earlier in the season his contract was only a 1 year deal. Seemed to make sense for all parties. Kimi could retire at a top team and Ferrari will fill a gap until moving Vettel or Bianchi in. Or if Alonso leaves then both .
He's had an awful start to the season. Of course they'll sack him if he doesn't turn it around, regardless of contract. Still, if what happened with Massa for years is any precedent he only needs a few good drivers around Monday time to save himself.
How good is Danica Patrick, that is the question. She'll be 34 by 2015 not a long term prospect, and she's never really stood out in any series she's been in. If they really want an American then surely someone like Rossi is best?
Yeah, she looks good in ad campaigns. I doubt she would've got far if she'd looked like Suzanne Boyle. It's the one thing the women 'racers' all have in common which is one of the reasons a decent one has yet to make it. Somewhere out there is a female Vettel/Hamilton/Alonso, trouble is if she's a minger she's in trouble.
Planet F1 quotes Jenson as saying ''There's no rush for someone who is in my position to seal a deal for next year. For me, you take it every day as it comes; I've learned that especially over the last six months.'' "So living in the moment is definitely something that I'm doing right now and I don't want to look too much in to the future." Is this code for I am open to an approach? It is in my book.
I think its code for "I know Honda have got my back so I'm safe, get your house in order McLaren and build a good car!" That or he's angling for Kimi's seat
To me, it sounds awfully similar to when everyone was asking if he was going to re-sign for Brawn after he won the WDC. Having said that, apart from trying to take over Kimi's spot, I doesn't see where else he can go to expect a reasonable car. Plus, if Kimi's struggling with his car at the moment then Jenson is probably likely to as well!
It's always difficult to know who holds the best hand in this case. It could be as BLS says that Honda view him as a secure driver for their brand, but we know Ferrari have courted him in the past and who's to say with Newey announcement that Vettel may move?
I read it as possible interest in Kimi's seat, this could be his last contract and does he want a spell with Ferrari. But I agree Vettel might move, but suspect Alonso would jump in there...Red Bull don't need a Jenson, Ferrari might. Prior to this quote I had him wedded to Honda but not so sure now.
Hamilton was at Maranello yesterday - to buy a Ferrari for Nicole or ..... http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/38810/f1-hamilton-a-maranello-un-tweet-e-tante-congetture
If he's there just to buy a Ferrari, it's bonkers that it has to be secret because it might upset some Mercedes marketing folks.
