We effectively need two first XIs to be properly competitive, that's what the best clubs have... City, Real. No way we can compete financially with them so we have a harder, more prolonged time getting there, plus we're only just back in the CL. So yes we should be thinking of it as a squad game rather than the first XI and 'the rest'. Every player in the squad needs to be able to contribute effectively and positively so that obviously when a player is out it's like he's not missing (or almost as all players are somewhat different/unique). On another note every time I read the thread title and 'captured' it's like it should be a war report rather than a football thread.
£18m is a lot for a young full back - unfortunately, there aren't a lot of quality lefts back available so there will be a premium paid. So £18m for a highly rated youngster with good experience is on par. Modern football eh ...

Assuming they perform to a high standered, any transfer is a risk when bringing players into a new league so it is equally possible that both players could devalue very quickly. Not saying they will, i like the look of Moreno but have not seen anything of Can so can`t comment.
