    Same here, I research stuff about the Danelaw in my own time because I find it interesting. Apparently, if your ancestors lived in East Yorkshire prior to the Industrial Revolution your probably the descendant of Danish Vikings. Our East Yorkshire dialect is very similar to Danish as well.

    I'm quarter French so presumably my ancestors came across with the Normans.

    The Normans weren't French though.

    Nonsense. Elton John didn't destroy Watford.

    The lad is a real football fan who can invest in his club.

    I can't see a problem if the opposition fans takes the mick. It's Doncaster for goodness sake: they get the mick taken anyway. No worse than what we put up with.

    Neither were many of the French. Frankreich, somewhat poignant given the anniversary.

    Before Hull was named Kingston upon Hull after Edward Longshanks it was originally called Wyke upon Hull. Wyke comes from the Old Norse word vík which means creek or inlet. The Vikings usually built settlements close to the beach so that they can be close to their ships.

    This is probably what Hull would have looked like 1200 years ago, the water being the Humber before it turned skid mark brown...

    People that seem obsessed with criticising boy bands are potentially more annoying than their fans are. He's a 22 year old lad that has bought his boyhood team with his own money after having a seemingly non-privileged childhood, working on turnstiles to pay for ticket etc. That for me is something hugely admirable whether you like the product he puts out or not.

    Good for him, investing his money in his local club.

    Better than blowing it on frogs or summet.

    That's a auto-correct obviously, but I left it 'cos it made me laugh.

    Drugs not frogs.

    Your final sentence said "they'll still be a laughing stock though". In fact you said it twice.

    Agreed you did praise him for supporting his boyhood club
    <cheers>

    With his inquisitive nature, and the standard of English shown here, " I'd never did Vikings or any of that stuff in history, it was nearly all modern history that I was taught." how can he fail?
