So I think it's fair to say that the experiment otherwise known as Milner @ RB is over. Whatever Hodgson thought he saw in training clearly sniffing the liniment beforehand is not a good idea. Was there any sign that the two center backs actually play for the same team in the Prem? Lambert .... I don't get why Liverpool made a sizable charitable donation to Southampton for him. Sterling's tackle was not a red card - IMO. He aggressively followed through after playing the ball following Valencia tripping him off the ball 30 seconds earlier. Any positives ....?
Didn't watch the game but Lamber now gets 3 in 5 so what's the problem? Also it looks as if Barkley was excellent again.
England seemed good going forward but really dodgy at the back. They will be far better when the important matches start.
Wasn't aware that Lambert is on a 3 in 5 clip. Still, he didn't look very effective last night. Barkley did look good. I hope that Sturridge, Sterling, and O-C get a change to play together - inexperienced perhaps, but their flare and pace are going to be exciting to watch and will cause plenty of problems for the other team.
I know it was only one game but 27m for Shaw. Please, no way he is worth half of that. Talented with potential that is it.
Try looking at all the games last night for what they are and not think that this is how the teams will play when it gets serious and counts, It was a work out and nothing more as nobody wants to get injured in these exhibition games of match practice. They are what they are to give the players game time and keep them match fit ready for the WC.
It was football. Not comedy. They qualified for the world cup - Wales didn't. I wish we were in their situation.
And me sterio but we don't have much chance when our top players pull out for no reason most of the time and we have to send out a side that do their best but its rarely good enough...The lower down the rankins we are the worst our draw will be in any competition. With the players we have had and some we still have we should be in the top 20 with no bother. but our FAW never do their job and insist players be released instead of accepting any lame excuse why they cant play...can you see England or any other top team accepting that...
Milner - did the best he could - but at right back .... if it wasn't so tragic it would be comical. Against better opposition England's center backs would have been turned up each other's backsides.
Best thing about this game was watching the talent that is Jefferson Montero on the left wing for Ecuador. He tore our defence in half at the Liberty in a preseason friendly against Real Betis a few years ago, and I've followed his progress ever since. He's now 24 and plays for a club in Mexico. We could probably buy him for next to nothing and he'd hardly be demanding big bucks. I've been Tweeting Leigh Dineen twice a season ever since telling him to sign him up. #SignHimUpLeigh
I did smile when I saw the result but to be fair Ecuador are a decent side at the moment, going forward at least, so the result wasn't so surprising. Didn't see the game so can't comment on performance but would agree that Montero (on the evidence of what little I've seen of him previously) looks like a pain in the arse for whomever he's up against. Both ourselves and Cardiff have been mentioned in Newspapers re: signing him past 2 years now. Wonder if we'll ever get to see him in the Prem. We could use a genuine left winger...is he left footed Big Apple? (seem to remember him cutting in on to his right in lots of clips)
I don't know for sure his dominant foot, although he was mostly cutting inside last night and I remember him doing the same against us so I'd assume he prefers his right. He plays on the left wing for club and country though so that is clearly his position. I'd somehow actually missed the reports linking us with him in March of this year, but I think we could do a lot worse as he has genuine pace and skill.
....and June 2013. On the face of it his agent is trying to get him a Prem club. I for one would be happier signing Montero than Ravel Morrison (different positions I know but both attack minded players). Nick Powell I like. Johnnie Willliams I like. Nathan Redmond.....even Tom Ince (yes, he's an annoying little **** but I do believe he has good potential). Ravel Morrison leaves me cold.
Yes, Morrison does have quality but as you pointed out, alongside his questionable attitude, his position on the pitch is not one where I think we desperately need reinforcements. Out wide, however, is another story. I'd be very happy with Redmond or Johnnie Williams, or even Ince, or McMannaman from Wigan. But, as a non-homegrown player, Montero will undoubtedly be cheaper, and if we signed him a little part of me would always feel like I'd played a part in the deal occurring! My mate has Dineen's mobile number so I might start badgering him on that too...until the restraining order comes through, anyway.
