Few midfielders left recently, good signing for me. Though I'm sure we will sign we'll sign a more Cabaye like replacement before August 31 or whenever the window closes.

Firmly in the camp of this being very good business. We have got rid of Gosling and brought in Colback. Basically a more mobile better footballer. At 24 he is coming into his best years and has looked a good player for them. He has been dicked around position wise a bit, and once settled in the middle looked quite good. Very tidy player.

I have to say though I see nothing to say he is signing? Unless I am missing something, all I've seen is an unreliable comment from The Useless Chronicle who have no knowledge of what is actually going on.

As always when I see him holding up the shirt then I'll believe it. I expected him to stay with Sunderland.

But he would not be joining a team chasing Europe he will be in a relegation dog fight and thats what we

A real mix of opinions on this thread and elsewhere. I'm firmly in the camp of thinking that this is good business by us. He is someone who offers a tonne of energy, he is young, free, a local lad and has managed 40+ games per season for the last 4 seasons, encouraging when you consider some of the sicknotes we have had in our squad.

Totally agree, we need good, solid, premier quality pro's as well as the 'purples', we also need ..bodies.. in the squad too.
If he is replacing Gosling it's a good sound move ...cant really go wrong with it

I'm happy. Good solid player to add to the squad. I think he has looked pretty decent from the games I have watched. He wants to win. Hopefully it will rub off on some of oir current crop

He's ****! No improvement on who we sold in Guthrie and as Cabaye replacement well pppft. Useful sub aye but not good enough overall for first team in premier league. He's a Pardew signing all over so he'll play every game even if we signed ****ing xavi

From what I can gather, the crazy offer from West Ham came after he had signed a binding pre contractual agreement with Newcastle, which his agent has been trying like hell to get round without success.
I honestly feel the lad will be in a no win situation if he does sign for Newcastle, and will be a big mistake for him.

Well he is okay as a player, one of his nicknames is 'passback' but we will let you lot see what you make of him. Froze when we had our Wembley run out.. I am cross that he is leaving without a fee but that is our stupid managements fault. I suspect the ginger ninja will be the recipient of calls of derision from you lot and boos and jeers from us. The fact that he moved to Newcastle rather than another club and all the likely fans problems that will bring shows he is not too bright. If it because his wife refuses to move it is even worse..he is then just an under the thumb ginge.

Exactly my question, all seems speculation. I wouldn't mind him as a squad option.

If we bring in Colback I don't think he is coming to sit on the bench. I think he will come to play first team football and that doesn't fill me with hope for next season at all.

Not sure pre contract agreements are enforceable in England??? I'm sure this has come up before. If West Ham want to pay us a fee however.................<laugh>

He can compete with Anita for a first team place. Very similar types. Anita is better technically, Colback is better physically. Competition is what we have been missing. We have one team, get an injury and our performance drops like a stone. I don't think it will be an issue, I'd be surprised if he signed.

Understandable that the lad wants to take his next step and climb up the table...........

Got to agree with this. Not all (IF ANY) of our signings are going to be big exciting ones. We need a squad too and he looks a good one to go for under the circumstances, Free, young, fit, local and experienced and with gaps in our midfield squad has to be worth a shot.
I think he is getting more flack than he deserves already by the same ones who constantly barrack the likes of Willo et al rather than support our own lads, remember, not every player in ANY squad is a superstar. The secret is getting the others to perform above themselves. (See Brian Clough).
Give him a chance and give him support and he may do great, may do ok or may flop but at the price nothing lost and a lot to maybe gain.

And of course we havent yet seen any confirmation of the signing yet so the usual believe it when you see him in the shirt maxim applies.

As I've said, if he's a replacement for Cabaye, then it's disgraceful. If he's an upgraded replacement for Gosling, happy days. We are linked with Cabella, who's really a LWF. For me, Cabella's a replacement for Remy. But we'll somehow jiggle it all around and fudge the figures.
