El, can you ask someone on Twitter regarding Rosco and a sell on clause? I'm sure that would be part of the reasoning we got him so cheap!

I think newcastle will go 5million maximum. He's a great player but no 27 year old from the championship is worth 8million pounds. Even still I hope we get him and I hope he shines in the premier league.

Afternoon all - As long as we get a decent price for him I am not worried one way or another if we sell Ross. I would prefer him to leave than be a disruptive influence, he does go a bit hot and cold and I do believe last season was a one off.

If the crystal ball said he was going to bag 25 goals or more for us next season I would say keep him IF he wanted to stay.

Supporting Leeds at the moment seems to be a forever waiting game. We seem to always be waiting for a takeover, a court decision, a player/manager to leave so if Ross is going lets see him go sooner rather than later.

McCormack's value will also go up because he's under contract until 2017. Even if he puts in a transfer request, the ball is still in our court. I don't think we'll get £8m for him but I'd be disappointed with £4m. McCormack is in the prime of his career, is our captain and star player, and nearly broke the 30-goal barrier last year. Apart from his first season with us he's been fairly consistent (bear in mind he played on the wing for the duration of Warnock's season, and still finished with the most assists), and normally makes the Scotland squad (okay, they don't exactly have a plethora of options up front but he's still an international). I think £6m would be a reasonable amount to aim for, given the season he's just had and the fact he's contracted for another 3 years.

Doesn't matter how much we get for McCormack, I doubt the money would be reinvested back in the team, so we'd be trying to replace a 25 goal a season striker/creator with a freebie.

    Plus ça change.........

My point being he's not going to get any better than he currently is. Compare that to Danny Ings who is only 21 and could be on the verge of a breakthrough into the England team if he carries on his development, how much would you expect to see him go for?

What Ross is worth to us isn't what other clubs would be willing to pay, but I suspect we may end up lowering our valuation to meet that.

So you're a clairvoyant now are you, Simon? You can predict who's going to get better & who's not? Perhaps Cellino could employ you for the close season to make some signings? Seriously though, I'm quite happy if Rossco doesn't improve. I think he's rather good as he is! So Ings has had a good season. Hmm. I agree that he could get better. But then, like a lot of players before him, he could get a lot worse. Ross at least offers consistency & is a proven goalscorer. Ings ain't there yet.

Ings ain't always what they appear to be! (I'll get me coat!)

The Clash - "Daddy was a Bank Robber..." I think anything north of £4m for Ross would be hard to turn down, much as I like him.

Jordan Rhodes fetched £8m when he was sold by Town so north of £6m is possible what you need is two or more clubs fighting for him!

When Rickie Lambert was McCormack's age he was still playing for Bristol Rovers, the rest is history.

I'd say he improved quite a bit from the grand old age of 27 <whistle>

There's a difference between a late developer rising through the leagues and a player who has played at a consistent level his entire career. Ross has peaked/is peaking, we're not going to get anywhere near £8m for him.

Rhodes was another player who was much younger than Ross when he moved. Young players have much higher values based on the assumption they will improve. Whatever has happened with individual players in the past, I don't think anyone at Newcastle or Leeds thinks Ross is going to get any better than he currently is.

I don't buy into the theory that players reach a certain age and can't improve any further. Whether Rosco does or does not improve or how much money he goes for is immaterial; the idea that a player can't improve once he hits an age ceiling is just ludicrous. If you're being coached well and you're putting in the hours on the training ground, I expect you'd improve, regardless of whether you're 18 or 32.

The best example of a player who kept on improving was Gordon Strachan. He was always a good player in his twenties, but when he reached his thirties he took it to another level entirely, he actually became world class.
