for the first time this summer i'm starting to feel a little more comfortable with the direction the club are taking, though i still feel the choice of manager is an unnecessary risk at a time we shouldn't be taking big risks. joe royle is a great football man, well respected and regarded throughout the game, and although i'm sure he won't be hands on, he'll offer valuable support to adams. no doubt some of our neanderthal fans will abuse him for being ex-binner but they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about - he's a very positive appointment. 'three lungs' is a good character too so nice to have him back. yet to be convinced by robson but people who have worked with him seem to enjoy it so we'll see how they all get on. there seems to be a nice balance between the new personnel who i think complement each other pretty well. it appears there'll be at least two more back room staff to come in to supplement what we now have so i look forward with intrigue at which faces come through the revolving door.

Royle was a canary before he became a binner so I'm sure no-one will hold it against him - bit daft if they do. Good footballing man and will offer Adams some sound mentoring. Pleased with the appointment of "3 lungs" too so the first positive signs appearing (at last).

Royle is about as close to a "promotion specialist" as you get.

I think he's a great appointment next to Adams.

Anybody who celebrates a handball goal against you boys like this always gets my vote.

    Agent Royle reporting for business.

All good appointments, IMO. Adams now has a good management team assisted by the experience of Royle. Have always thought City should have coaching support for the strikers and perhaps Royle will take on that 'mentoring' role as well. With McNally now saying that the Technical Director and Recruitment Director posts should be filled soon (Wotte and Park?), things seem to be shaping up nicely.

Someone to offer advice to an inexperienced manager- just highlights that NA is a major gamble. JR may well offer great advice, but how will that be translated by/through Adams? I have to say I have no idea what Gary Holt will bring, I wish I was feeling as optimistic as some of the posters on here

This appears to be one potential bonus of the Neil Adams appointment. He does not have a 'management team' ready made to call upon and bring with him, then bugger things up as they did in their previous club. Just how it all shapes up though, remains to be seen.

how it'll work is a mystery really and you're absolutely right, it does highlight just how big a gamble this is. i still haven't quite got my head round what has happened! given holt's background i'd imagine he makes the players work very hard. not sure he's the man to bring neat passing to the table though!

i'm still in the 'this is going to go badly wrong' camp but at least the appointment of royle has shifted me closer to the centre ground <laugh>

i bet that'll change a week before the season kicks off. honestly, if we start slowly, i think last seasons 'dramas' will have nothing on this.

    lets hope we start brightly...

I think on that front having a team in place who understands the team and know where the weaknesses are will be an advantage. Hughton seemed not to understand the team for a good month after his first season started and to my mind actually laid the foundations for our relegation in that misunderstanding, he clearly was looking to improve the defence thinking the goals would just keep coming but he failed to understand that our goals tended to be team efforts with lots of player forward and introducing a more rigid structure lost that.
Adams knows the team and the problems and has and excising relationship with the players which will allow preseason to start quicker.

its obviously far more complicated than that bath but hopefully adams has been pondering how he would go about reshaping the squad and how to get them firing for a lot longer than the time he's known he's got the job. that might be a positive <ok>

I think Joe Royle is an ideal appointment, he is suited to Championship and the British footballer and he has always come over as articulate and confident in what he says. It's the first thing I've liked since the whole farce began.

But, it will only work if Adams is up to managing the first team. If he's not then it doesn't matter who is advising him
