Thanks putting this on here - was there for his first game and remember being surprised how well he got down to score his first goal. Happy memories... a great servant for the club.
Makes me remember my feelings when he left us Gasheads for Southampton. The lad had a few things that players theses days don't seem to have, humility, talent and courage of his beliefs and convictions. Was so proud of Rickie when he played his first premiership game for you and even prouder when he pulled on the three lions. Go Rickie and help bring home the world cup so your name will cemented in England football history.
I just hope the Liverpool fans will hold him in as much esteem as we do (a Scouser at work described him as a Championship player...), it would be a shame if his career turned sour after the highs of the last 5 years. I have faith that he will contribute there but he will probably restricted in his playing time with the greater competition for attacking spots there. The greatest compliment I can give Rickie is that I will become a Liverpool fan while he is playing and I hope that he achieves winning some major honours there. Thanks for the memories, the goals and your unquestionable positive influence at SFC, you are up at the very top with the likes of LeTiss. Paine, Davies, Williams and Channon as club legends who will NEVER be forgotten.
Glad for him and he deserves it but I wish he said something nice about us. After all we could have let him go to WHU and he may never have gone to WC or LFU
He did say something nice in his letter. Cheered me up and made me look forward to seeing him at the WC again. After all when he plays, it will have nothing to do with the scousers. The Liverpool interview would be about Liverpool.
I have to say that in the world of modern football it's rare to see a story come to pass that is both heart-warming and genuine. RL has trodden a path that is almost like a football fairy-tale from factory to non-league to lower league and upwards to the EPL and to represent his country, through it all there is no question that at each step up he worked hard and met and indeed exceeded the standard, improving as a player year on year. He sounded genuinely over the moon on the radio interview I heard and if it's possible to see a happy grin on the radio I could see it. He also, I understand, gave a very thorough and genuine thanks to you all and the club via an open letter. He may have played for you guys but as a football fan I think only the hardest soul wouldn't wish him well at Liverpool, his home city and boyhood club, as a lifelong fan he must be thinking he's due to wake up in a minute. I know many of us at FP have given him stick over the years but in truth he always has struck me as a decent bloke who through hard graft has got to live a dream that many, many of us would love to achieve. So as a non Saint I'll wish him all the very best.....because in the modern game he may well be a real Roy of the Rovers.
Cheers for a great five years Rickie, hope you get some game time and get plenty of goals, although none against us hopefully
Yep read it now and feel a tad ashamed to complained, but I guess the press treat us like crap and hadn't published the letter. How typical
A fond farewell, although surely missed. There have been a few players that history marks as special for the Saints. Not one though, has been as instrumental in the team rising through the league ranks. He deserves his break, to fulfil a dream. Good luck, Bon voyage...and please score the 95th minute winner at the World Cup final. It has been written, it shall be done...
Just had a day dream that Lambert scored a last minute goal that won Liverpool the title and by extension kept us up... Dont really want that to happen and be in that situation, but if i was writing a movie. That would be my ending
Oh and for those who posed the question and were speculating, I won't be changing my username. Rickie can stay right there.
Sorry if already posted. Farewell from Jose to Rickie: http://m.101greatgoals.com/blog/sou...kie-lambert-a-heartfelt-message-on-instagram/
Good to hear. To me he is there with Channon, MLT, Paine etc and no one would think usernames with those players are ridiculous and Channon played for Pompey! My Lambert England shirt plan is back on
Good Luck Rickie mate you deserve the move. We will miss you....we will apologise in advance though for beating your new team next season with our new super stars.....but hey that is football!!
