Cellino after meeting the squad today told the press: I don't like the sound of that if I am honest, getting ready for an excuse as to why we don't hit the transfer market as much as many of us feel we need to?
Don't panic. He first thought we were Conference North standard but now he realises we're Conference Premier.
I think he's right! Our (remaining) players are of a certain quality. Not world beaters, but certainly not the relegation material they appeared to be last season. Something affected them all. I can guess what it was, but it's in the past. Who cares what it was? The future is (hopefully) bright. We have a new owner, and (hopefully - haven't we been here before?) things should start looking brighter all round. Just wish it would start soon! For the record, I really don't think we're going to sign many players in the close season. A few, yes. Lots? No. We have the basis of a good squad if we appoint the right guy to make them believe that!
So what would you preffer he said, They cam across as a bunch of lazy bastards who only want to pick up a pay check? Some/many will leave but if the others are prepared to put in a shift get properly fit then with a few quality additions we might be OK.
We can't afford a few quality additions. Apart from some Academy lads stepping up and a handful of cheap Italians we'll go next season with largely the same squad we currently have. It's already been said many times that Cellino isn't going to be putting much of his own money into the club, if we want to spend we'll have to sell. EDIT: And can we please stop pretending the players are somehow all completely unfit and Cellino's sorting them out? I keep seeing this thrown about with no evidence that there's been anything wrong on the fitness front.
Should see them play, they are not football fit, As for quality signings, its what I hope for not what might happen. Remember cellino has bought a ferrari, new tyres etc don't come cheap, lol.
We all hope for quality signings, but it's not particularly realistic. We might unearth some hidden gems, but we're not going to be signing any proven talent.
Cant see it myself either, until he stops the rot, court cases etc. But i think its not easy to second gues what he might do,one way or the other. I for one will wait and see come end of transfer window.
This was the next step i was waiting for. Which in all fairness the squad isn't as bad as its been made out to be. We NEED a goalkeeper, a CM, a winger or 2 imo. which is only 4 signings. After that, it'd be nice to get a CB and an ST but I think its a matter of building the squad with these signings which can happen over the january window also. The real key is that the players signed are of promotion quality and will improve our first team so while some frees could be picked up that fit into that description, they all seem to have already been bought by others clubs so money may need to be spent.
almost there Josh, we need a minimum of nine players coming in, and a few more like Norris leaving "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
We all know we need to get rid of more players. I don't think we NEED a minimum of nine players coming in was my point. I think thats what we'd ideally like and those players I mentioned are straight into the first team, from there a squad needs to be built.
