Marseille will listen to offers for winger Dimitri Payet who has been a long-term Newcastle United target

Long-term Newcastle United target Dimitri Payet has been officially put on the transfer list by Marseille.

The winger has been told by his new manager, Marcelo Bielsa, that he has no future at the club and offers will be invited for the French international.

Well-placed sources in France believe the 27-year-old would be available for no more than £8million, maybe even less, which would be within Newcastle’s price range.

Payet has been on Newcastle’s radar for a while now and is a player who would excite the St James’ Park crowd.

And the fans are in need of even a hint of excitement.

The United supporters grew ever more restless over the weekend when there was no sign of any deal being done.

The Remy Cabella transfer saga has hit a stalemate as Newcastle and Montpellier look to haggle over his fee.

Newcastle are believed to be considering a second bid, but they are unlikely to match the 15meuros wanted by Montpellier.

There was also a suggestion yesterday that they have watched Kingsley Coman, a 17-year-old striker who managed to break into the Paris-Saint Germain team last season.

Reports claim a loan deal could be in the offing, although Juventus are currently favourites to land the Paris-born teenager, who turns 18 this month.

In February of last year, Coman became the youngest player in PSG history when he made his debut at 16 years, eight months and four days.

£8million for Payet. That's probably about £6million above Mike's 2014 summer transfer window total spend ceiling.

 

Surely that would be him being "Woodmaned" given its his dad who coaches him (and has got him to this stage)
