Beverley has a population of 29,000 and they mainly support clubs in Hull. Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, where Castleford Tigers support comes from has a population of 83,000, so isn't really comparable at all.
no quite right , if you compare 1 town to 3 towns then you have shot down my point . . . well done . in the words of David Coleman . . . . . . . "quite comparable !! "
Just to set the record straight. Mend a Hose specialise in pneumatic and hydraulic equipment and not your common or garden hose. Such equipment is often costly and is, therefore, worth mending as opposed to replacing. In Summary. We are not talking about a length of garden hose you can buy from B and Q or Chants Ave DIY, it's specialist equipment, hence the need for such a company as Mend a Hose. I had to google it because I was chuckling away to myself like a demented fool at the thought of taking a bit of garden hose to get repaired, " What's the point in that?" I thought to myself. You can buy a decent length for around a tenner, how much would it çost to repair it? That was another thought going through my head. I hope that's put people's minds at rest.
Do they repair car hoses? My breather pipe has snapped and the stealers want £50 for a new one. Not paying it out of principle, thieving gits. It's about 8" long and 1" diameter. Worth about 50p at a push.
This maybe needs its own thread but relating to the catchment areas of football. I live in brid and in the past you have mainly seen Leeds Utd shirts but over the past few years the tide is turning and the next generation are going to be the ones following city
Getting behind the team during the game is good but why clap them off after a "truly dismal display" ?
Thats from the magic weekend on sky while we were at Wembley. I've been told they were chanting city songs when we were 2-0 up. It doesn't seem like Rovers fans hate Hull City to me. I certainly don't think rugby has held us back massively. Poor chairmen and not being very good held us back much more.
I think its called supporting your team no matter what. Letting the players know we are still behind them. Not every player had a bad game, some gave their all and deserved to be clapped off. I clap city and rovers off the pitch win lose or draw.
The larger Hull companies are loathe to sponsor City in a meaningful way for fear of offending the rugby clubs and their fans. Convenient excuse for not getting the cheque book out and some companies did and are bucking that trend. But the fact remains that local companies have three clubs knocking on their door for sponsorship. How much did that set us back in the early 80s when Lardism was at its zenith and we were languishing in Div 4?
Hull is unique in having 2 RL clubs and 1 football club all competing for support. RL has never stopped football being played in Hull but as it started before City it did delay football starting up until relatively late in 1904. Since then it has drained support from football, it has drained commercial revenue from football and it has drained positive media from football. Despite both Hull RL clubs being massive underachievers it has successfully developed a myth perpetrated by the local media that Hull is a rugby town as opposed to what it really is, a football city, finally acknowledged after a 104 year struggle in 2008. 104 years of stopping Hull City AFC reach its potential. A parallel narrative has also been perpetrated by the eggchasingcentric local media that rugby is the family game with a better atmosphere which contributed to the tubbylard support levels despite the eggchasers regularly shaming our city with displays of hooliganism and brick throwing largely unpunished by the courts. Kempton was miles better than the Threepenny Stand atmosphere just as the first half of the 2014 FA Cup Final was miles better than the overhyped 1980 Challenge Cup Final. Guillem Lloyd Out!
A decent rivalry keeps a club thriving as there would be plenty of opportunity for topical discussion in pubs and workplaces. Replace that with meaningless negative swipes and piss poor attempts at comparing the two codes, and you get something far less than vibrant, and sucked in to the same backwater. Comments about 'wendyball' from someone in a Liverpool shirt doesn't make me feel like engaging in a discussion. To be fair, in my experience it's tended to be FC rather than Rovers that have this chip on their shoulder. In general, I've found Rovers fans quite content to follow their sport without much need for others justification.
I agree with you to a point but football is and has always been the bigger sport. Had city been successful sooner, city would have had the pick of the sponsorship in the city. Pearson saw we had potential and invested in our club. That's all we ever needed coupled with a bit of luck. Now we are massive compared to the Rugby clubs. Rugby league cannot compete with a successful football club.
The crowd @ Odsal yesterday with its capacity.? What makes it worse was that the game was Bradfotd v. Wakefield. 6249 in ground that holds at least 28,000
"We all" appears to exclude a number of r.l. followers who appear convinced it's the other way round.
Saying the word 'Duller' is lame as ****. I mean, we're also called Hull, and people nationally use 'dull' as a piss-poor insult towards us. It's on a par with Weeds and Manure for ****ness.
