Anyone remember this? I always remember i was playing cards with my mates on Sutton Park school roof when we hard this BOOM. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Flix...-Remembering/story-21169337-detail/story.html
I certainly do Chazz. I grew up on Southcoates Lane just opposite the Reindeer Pub - so fairly close to the River Humber. My late father worked at BP and was on a shift there when the boom happened, we were scared ****less that BP had gone up. When we found out what it was and how far away it was, the loudness of the explosion was remarkable. I still feel for the poor souls who lost their lives and their families who are reliving the memories.
We were at my brother-in-law's wedding reception in Cottingham Civic Hall when all of a sudden all the swing doors opened and shut, no one had any idea what had happened till we got home and watched the news.
I was playing footy with the other kids that day at Setting Dyke school and thought a plane had crashed.
I remember this. It was about 5 o'clock on a Saturday night. My mums front bay window shook. We lived on Goddard Ave at the time. 40 years ago, where's it all gone.
I certainly remember it, I was living in Anlaby and the windows shook, and I wondered what the hell had happened.
I was at some kind of Summer Fete on the playing field in Gilberdyke when everyone heard the massive explosion. As I remember, a lot of people set off towards the river amid rumours of tankers blowing up on the Humber amongst other things but in reality it was much worse.
I remember this. I would have been 8yrs.Lived on Orchard Park. Me and a friend had just been kicking a ball around, and were just sat around, talking nonsense no doubt. The ground around us just shook. What was that ? Dunno,i'm better than you at pens though.... My dads older brother was fire chief for Hull back then, after serving in the navy(Subs) in the second world war. He never talked of either event.
Its amazing how so many people remember exactly what they were doing at the time. I was out playing footy in the ten foot behind Tennyson Ave.
