All this crap about can Lambert come back for a day and retire a Saint. Sorry but what a load of bollocks.

I am happy for him as he has got his move but if he was that emotionally tied to us he would never have wanted to go to WHU in January and then onwards to Liverpool.

Why the hell would he want to come back here 'for a day'.

Best of luck to him...though I am not sure he will see too much playing time. I actually see him dropping a little deeper playing for them...

I believe it was Lambert who turned down that move. Saints allowed him to talk to WHU.

The other thing that gets me is about the £££. He has only got a coupel of years as a pay day then will have to retire, not earn as much if he goies into coaching etc.

I dont buy that for any player, even Lambert.

He has earned a fortune, millions in fact playing for us, and possibly more than any of us will earn in a lifetime. I saw a comment earlier suggesting he will have an expensive lifestyle so its ok to go - any person needs to cut their cloth according to their circumstances, I just cant give pity cos he wont be earning £1m + in 2-3 years time - it beggers belief.

Im not slating RL by the way, more so peoples attitudes to come to terms with it. As has been said many times on here previously - if we get offered a better role somewhere else for more money most of us will take it.

To be fair, we will probably never know the truth - many people on here said it was pulled by the new board when NC left...

But my point still stands about people wanting him to come back for a day and retire a Saint - tomorrow we will hear the usual crap about how L'pool is is boyhood team, always dreamed of....I sure he will prefer to retire a Red just as he started his career with them.

We aren't good enough for him.

It's like catching a girl cheating on me except this is way worse! I have no one to aim a punch at.

Not the way I've heard it. When Osvaldo was shipped out the board blocked the transfer.

Fair enough. We know how much he loved playing for Saints and we loved watching him bang the goals in. He's said on numerous occasions how much he appreciates SFC for helping him reach his potential and dramatically climb the football ladder. I'll bet it was still a difficult decision for him to make, and I'm certain he will look back on his time at Southampton as the best time of his footballing life. He loved it here, but the team he supports has come calling and this is his only chance to play for his team. I can understand that decision. The fact that he is so happy to be joining LFC is not a dig at Saints. I'm devastated, but I'm happy for him too. Football is weirdly emotional.

He is still their Chairman, which also makes him the person who signed Oscar Gobern from us...for whom they have to date paid about half of the fee cited above for Lambert.
