http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=141515 Set to leave Hamburg on a full basis, English right backwing and midfielder Michael Mancienne (26) is getting more and more likely to join Sunderland on a 3 years deal, as highlighted by Daily Mirror. Know nowt about him
From the bits I've seen of him at Wolves and Hamburg, he's never looked anything other than ordinary. I'll still give him a chance if he signs like.
Congerton knows him well so him and Poyet must approve as a pair. Had a lot of potential but never quite stepped up to international level. Quite versatile as well. On a cheap deal, worth a squad space.
Looks to me that AJ might be on his way if this is true ....... Mancienne's a different kind of player but perhaps that's what Poyet's after. He'd be on half the wages of AJ and is more hard working, won the FA Cup with Chelsea as well I reckon ...... might be wrong. He's decent going forward but equally happy backtracking.
Like joe says totally different type of player. Was quite decent when younger and looked comfortable distributing with either foot. A good squad player imo.
He's very adaptable but he always looks more comfortable on the right of midfield to me. He's quick, from what I remember, and likes getting past the full back. I can't see him being brought in as a centre back tbjh.
He is a CD but can play lb rb and dm. This is prob why youngans don't go abroad, I forgot all about him but he did look good when he was at wolves. He was on the subs bench for the FA Cup final in 2009, but never got on the pitch.
I do confess I've only seen bits of him. Never watched him in midfield or beating men. Are you sure you're thinking of the right bloke mate?
I can remember his daft hairstyle at the cup final but remember nowt else ....... he looked decent that season
I reckon, he's not a dribbler but he gets down the line through a combination of speed and strength. His crossing's nowt special but he wins a lot of corners and free kicks. Or am I getting him mixed up with Drogba, those Chelsea players all look he same
I'll set them up, you knock them into the back of the net I think he'll be the 'Bardsley replacement' and him & Jones will be competing for that spot. If AJ moves he could find himself further up the pitch. If either of the centre backs is injured/suspended he could fill in there.
I'd see it as a competition between him and Jones for RB. He can push up but he's no goalscorer and I can't remember him taking many free kicks and corners. He's probably cover at RB and centre of defence. I reckon he can play LB but I might be imagining that.
I remember him & there is no chance he'd be brought in to replace Johnson Think he'd be used as a cb if he did sign
