EXCLUSIVE: Harry Redknapp looking to lure Liverpool's Glen Johnson to QPR ENGLAND right-back Glen Johnson is a target for Premier League new boys QPR. Johnson, 29, has just a year remaining on his Liverpool deal and has so far failed to agree a new one. That has alerted Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, who had Johnson in his West Ham and Portsmouth teams. Rangersâ policy is to recruit young players for the future and reduce a crippling wage bill. But Redknapp has stressed the importance of experience to cope on their return to the top flight. Johnson is seeking a three-year, £120k-a-week contract but Liverpool are reluctant to sanction that. They could switch Jon Flanagan, 21, to his preferred position on the right and are already in the market for a left-back. The top target for Kop boss Brendan Rodgers for that position is Sevilleâs £16million-rated Alberto Moreno. Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand will be convinced by Redknapp to join the promoted Londoners. That is the view of former West Ham stalwart Alvin Martin. He reckons Redknapp can pull off the coup after he bossed Ferdinand when he was emerging as a talented young defender at Upton Park. Former England skipper Ferdinand, 35, is a free agent after Manchester United released him following a glittering 12-year spell at Old Trafford. Redknapp is determined to secure the veteran centre-halfâs services but faces competition from a clutch of American clubs in the MLS. But Hammers legend Martin said: âI think Rio will want to stay in England. And working with Harry again would be a big pull for him. âHarry is made for Rio. Heâs somebody who lets you get on with it and gives you a lift when you need it. âRio will know that Harry does believe in him. http://vigo.dailystar-uk.co.uk/spor...oking-to-lure-Liverpool-s-Glen-Johnson-to-QPR
I think it is a position we definitely need to fill, especially if Ned is going to be primarily used as a starting CB. Ideally we need a RB better going forward than Simpson, or at least a back up for him. Johnson fits the getting forward part, but he's getting on a bit, and maybe too expensive, though I expect the Star are making up his wage claims.
If we were to spend money on a new right back to compete with Danny Simpson our money would be much better spent on the likes of Kieran Trippier or Nathaniel Clyne imo.
I'd be concerned if we paid anyone half that amount. Yes we need to strengthen that area but not by gambling further on our future by paying out ridiculous sums.
It is undoubtedly lazy journalism; we will get linked with everyone, especially anyone that Redknapp has managed before, but thanks for your concern.
I hope for one that this is not true Don't rate him as a right back, good going forward ok, but don't rate him at all as a defender and still not sure how he is an England player. If we need a right back what about Kyle Walker?
Way out of our price range. I'd Walker was fit I'd play him over Johnson for England. We do need another RB though.
One thing to bare in mind, what sentence is Simpson likely to get for battering that guy with a baseball bat?? I'm not saying we should be going for Johnson, but I do think we definitely need another Right Back as it's about the only position we haven't really got experienced cover for.
