    Those parts sounds unpleasantly mencap.

The idea of a mass sleep-in in a hall.

Though, with the right rights I'd also imagine fun could have been had to. Like most people, due to circumstance, I've slept outside or in a rail station, but sleeping in the hall just seems a broken stretch. Maybe I'm seeing it through the eyes of a 30 something - older and less bolder?

One would imagine various outcomes happened versus occured.

Semm to recall Lydon spent half the time crouched down with his back to the crowd when they eventually came on.

Queens Hall was a bloody enormous place, big enough to fit the articulated lorries with stage gear etc. Acoustics in there + facilities were pretty 5**T.

I don't recall anyone giving any thought whatsoever to sleep or comfort.

Not some Lemmy style boast just a fact.

No one I knew possessed a sleeping bag or had been to any rock festival, specially an indoor one.

    'We was only bains' basically.

I missed Futurama 1, but it sounds pretty much the same as Futurama 2, sleeping on a bed of piss, beer and empty cans. Some of the acts were brilliant, even if sound quality wasn't, I particularly remember Classix Nouveax, who filled the room with smoke then fired lasers onto a chrome guitar that cut through the smoke and hit mirror balls(we'd never seen lasers before).

I went the following year to Futurama 3, in Stafford, but it took forever to get there and we missed some of the bands. That one had Gang Of Four, Theatre Of Hate, Bauhaus, Sisters Of Mercy, My Silent War and Simple Minds.

    Happy days.

I remember the bed of beer & piss at the back of the hall.I think there was a problem with the promoter and that's why Futurama 3 moved to Stafford. The original promoter put on Daze of future past at the Queen's Hall in 1981 with Echo & the bunnymen,The Cramps,Bauhaus,Thompson Twins,Theatre of Hate,Wall of Voodoo & Altered Images.

Read about other touring bands complaining about the acoustics.

I think, I’d read somewhere, it used to be a tram station – hence it’s vast vastness.

I didn’t start going to gigs until the clock went all 1990 - hence my startles.

I get the form and I’d have been the same.

    Still, sounds crazy though.

Though with the right fortitude, I’m supposing it meant all kinds of fun could have been had had had.

Much prefer today's summer festival vibe. Not actually attending of course. Just watching with the red/blue button option. Food and drink to hand, not the stench of last night's urine and Bo from some untermensch from Wolvo.

May even do Glasto one year, but not to see actually see any artistes, just for the vibe. Nearby hotel option for the rest option.

Unlikely to get lucky like 2005:-

Went to Glastonbury a good few times in the 90s, before they tightened it all up and restricted capacity. I stopped mainly because I enjoy wearing smart clothes whilst getting off my face to music plus I find camping a drag.

As everyone will know, it was easy to sneak in, but even easier to pay someone a tenner to escort you through the gates (the staff were all at it) – it was safer this way too as some of the gangs involved disliked people sneaking in and not paying them.

It’s great for seeing bands if the mix was right (often would be something somewhere at all times - though I did once suffer Sting), comedians et al. but it was pretty ****ing lawless when I was there. I recall one scouser carting a haul of nicked stuff boasting, 'you can call 999 outside but who you gonna call here?' This was true.

If some people on here get all limp dickery about flares going off at games then they’d have had a ****ing fit if they’d have attended those festivals.

All sorts of crime going on, from beatings, muggings, theft, rape – at least somebody died every time I went – I recall at least one got beaten to death too.

Hordes of gangs of Welsh and Scouse up to all kinds of mischief.

Drugs on tap (although you’d have to be mencap to buy any there).

One thing that struck me, was that the famous Glastonbury spirit was utter utter bullshit.

It was all about money and hedonism with a sprinkle of middle class hippydom thrown in – they’d quickly drop their masks too though if given the right prod.

That said, it was pretty good.

I think the tipping point was finally reached when Coldplay topped the bill the other year.

Back in the 70s we had Supertramp. Now we have these.

    Ultimate flaskers' band.

As far as I can recall, Glasto became run/owned by Mean Fiddler (as is Latitude). I think Mean Fiddler sold out to a huge American company - Clear Channel(?).

I was at the SOD gig at Hull City Hall , took of load of their crew to Spiders after.

I'd seen a lot of Spear gigs around the UK on that tour.

One of my favourite gigs was the Cramps , supported by the Meteors in Leeds . The Meteors wreckin crew were a nasty bunch of twats,

Been quite a few iffy headlines/general bookings inbetween too with Eavis and offspring espousing a la Jool ****ing Holland/Jo Wiley about great the said **** band are/was/were.

I do vaguely recall John Power getting pelted with mud though if that helps anyone?

I can't remember Stan - though that would explain the huge change.

In the Glasto festivals of the 90s, I guess you must have been talking figures in the region of 250k attending - think they used to sell about a 100k officially?

Is it just me or does it annoy the **** out of anybody else when Glastonbury is referred to as "Glasto"? Probably the main reason I haven't been since 1994, full of Tarquin & Daisy "Glasto" types.
