I was at Futurama 2 & York Racecourse Festival.I remember St Georges Hall was a right mess at the back-a mixture of spilled drink and other bodily fluids.I went to see the Chameleons at Fruit on Monday. They were performing Script of the bridge.Did anyone go to see Siouxsie & the Banshees supported by The Cure at the City Hall in about 1979?

    I was in attendance.

Saw City hammer Sheffield at Gooseberry Park then train to station and all aboard the Leeds train.

PiL topping the bill- came on about 0200 BST long after the rest.

Joy Division stole the show and opened up with Atrocity Exhibition.

    Punilux played a blinder.

Had a weekend ticket (tenner?) but came home Sunday teatime as was sick of it all by then.

Big dark cavernous hall, no daylight, no air, no refreshments, no seats, smokey, sweaty and full of the Great Unwashed both literally and figuratively.

Wish I'd paid more attention but it had been a long long day with the blunts and I was ****ed.

It sounds like a testing but well memorable mixture: seeing an early PiL or JD between UP and Closer certainly is worth turning one's eye turrets to - then writing about it.

I’ve read elsewhere about the trying nature of the event, probably hard to fathom for those who didn't attend gigs in the 70s.

No refreshments as in nothing to buy to drink at all? I assume you could pass in pass out?

Maybe that was a regular occurrence back then?

I remember being shocked at not being able to smoke at a Morrissey gig in the 90s.

    Tenner sounds relatively expensive too.

Group of us Hull fellows went- some for opening time, others arriving after the routing of Sheffield.

Unknown Hardships rather than Pleasures: a hard sticky floor with beer, sweat. Don't recall anyone from Hull being prepared with sleeping bags etc. No sleep that night too much noise in the hall.

Indoor festival ? No accommodation, money or preparation on our part.

Tenner for the weekend. May have been £4 for one night of £7.50 the weekend can't remember.

Back then a Lp cost £2.99 or £3.99.

Peter Hook did both Joy Division albums at Fruit in March and it still sounded brilliant.
