This is Newcastle United we're talking about. Believe it if we sign him.

I see there are a lot of Townsend rumours on twitter. Where did they start?

Cant be true, this isnt how we buy players,
We tend to wait for two more years in order to pay the extra mill we didnt want to initially

"Newcastle United and Montpellier close to agreeing a fee for Remy Cabella

According to our colleagues L’Equipe, Montpellier and Newcastle United are close to agreeing a fee for the transfer of Remy Cabella.

Get French Football News exclusively revealed that Hector Cabella, Montpellier and Newcastle United were due to meet this week and we have now been told that they did in fact do so, with negotiations being described as ‘promising’. Montpellier’s initial fee demands of €15m have been rejected by Newcastle and the two sides are working towards a deal worth €12m, including bonuses.

While discussions are now advanced between all three parties, we must stress that nothing is agreed, but that Remy Cabella has given the green light for negotiations to continue.

Atletico Madrid, Marseille and Borussia Dortmund remain interested in the player.
    "

    Plenty of procastinating left then.

I think a deal for Cabella could be done fairly soon. Grenier is away at the World Cup so that wouldn't happen until much later although I suspect someone bigger will come in for him. Are we meant to be in for Townsend on a permanent deal? Why are Spurs willing to let him go - I thought he was meant to be the new saviour of English football?

I read somewhere that any sale of Grenier would be prompted by financial issues for Lyon, and that the sale would need to be completed before the end of June due to these issues. The same article also suggest Roma have made an offer of £10million for him.

    Here it is:

Newcastle United look set to miss out on French midfielder Clement Grenier.

Long-term target, Lyon midfielder Grenier, looks set to join Roma after the Serie A giants bid around £10m for the 23-year-old.

Grenier claimed that all his focus is on the World Cup, although because of Lyon’s financial problems, his transfer would have to be completed in June.

Indeed. It sounds like we offered half of the asking price as usual.

Part of me still thinks this could come off tho if we were in advance stages then surely the price would have been the first question ?

I honestly don't think we know what we're doing anymore. I think relegation is not a negative comment, not a throwaway remark, but a sad inevitable conclusion to this forgettable period in our history. Eventually Pardew will leave, eventually Ashley will bail out, and we'll lick our wounds and carry on, no matter how desperate the situation.
