    TREBLE HIS CURRENT WAGES ???

Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page

    EXCLUSIVE:

WEST Ham have dramatically upped the ante in the race for Jack Colback’s signature with a ‘treble your money’ offer to the out-of-contract Sunderland midfielder.

And that mega money deal is all but certain to scupper both Sunderland and Newcastle United’s hopes of keeping the player in the North East.

The Hammers, who have released a brace of midfielders this summer – former England midfielder Joe Cole, now 32, and Welsh international Jack Collison whose career has bombed in recent seasons – and are on the look-out for new blood.

And West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has identified Sunderland’s Academy product Colback as the best value of the Bosman midfielders around.

A wage offer in the region of £50,000 a week is seen as economically justifiable by the Hammers for a player who would have been rated in the £3m to £4m bracket had he been under contract, and who was on Everton’s radar last season.

And that ambitious offer will blow Sunderland and Newcastle out of the water with neither club prepared to go anywhere near that figure for the player.

Sunderland had substantially improved the offer originally made to Killingworth-born Colback last summer by former director of football Roberto De Fanti as the midfielder approached the last year of his contract.

But the offer tabled by the Italian was derisory in footballing terms.

And how costly a mistake that has proven to be is about to illustrated by the 24-year-old’s departure from the Stadium of Light for nothing.

Newcastle have been monitoring Colback’s situation closely but have yet to make an offer and are not expected to do so now in light of the West Ham development.

The only hope of Colback staying in the North East is if the player himself and his young family decide to stay in the region.

Newly married Colback was believed to have preferred to remain in the North East.

But it is hard to see how he can turn down an offer as lucrative to him as West Ham are now prepared to make.

And that will mean Sunderland’s rebuilding job will be a little bit bigger with the loss of a third of the midfield triumvirate – Lee Cattermole and Seb Larsson the others – who proved absolutely pivotal in securing the club’s Great Escape in the dying weeks of last season.

    HA'WAY Gus act quick !!!

Tis a joke offer from West Ham really

Nobody is going to compete with that

Id give Colback a final offer and say thats the highest we are going, take it or leave it

Personally thought he'd stay in the North East with family but very difficult to turn that kind of money down

He`d be daft if he turned that offer down.
Doubt he`ll get a better one.

Would be a decent move for him that and hes more likely to catch Woy's eye playing in Laandan.

If he goes I wish him well as long as it not to the skunks.

Obviously I would rather he stayed with us.

But if West Ham are willing to pay him that I don't think anyone on here would begrudge him taking that chance.

Shame really, as I think he is a cracking player, just not 50k a week cracking.

Yup it's our fault for probably not offering at least half of this wage a long time ago. Again can't complain about anyone leaving for that money as it also pretty much makes certain he has to be in the starting line up or Sam will get some serious questions asked.

The sums are too hard for me but how many millions will we have to pay for someone as good?
Divide that by a three year contract.
How much a week will we be paying?
We know about his skill, commitment , youth.
Is 50K a week that expensive?

Worth maybe 20k a week. Overspending on average players has been our downfall for years. Let's let West Ham make that mistake while we bring someone else in.

We could find a gem on the continent for under £4m and pay less than £20,000 a week. Colback is not a 50k a week player. This does not bode well for West Ham's future in my opinion. Pretty wreckless. Zarate will be on a pretty penny as well. Hell of a player though, straight in my fantasy team next year.

4-5m on 20k a week for someone as good I reckon - around 8m and not a massive impact on FFP where the club wages are concerned - 50k a week for him is ludicrous. See you later Jack

Edit - or what Solsec said before me :)

Can't blame Jack for taking this offer, the amount WHU are offering is ridiculous. I can't help but think it'll stunt his career though, spending half the game watching the ball fly over his head to Andy Carroll.

I wish the lad well anyway, as long as he doesn't got to Newcastle.
