Why? Class them as 3 separate deals and nothing anyone can do. There is nothing stopping a club from selling a player for a certain amount of money, that's their prerogative. I can't see it happening as I doubt we'll want to buy all 3 and doubt Saints would actually want to lose the spine of their squad like that, but I don't think there is anything illegal in it. Morally wrong? Maybe.. but by who? Us, or Southampton? We end up paying the same amount so makes no difference to us how it's split... Saints are the only ones that profit from it.
Just one point to add.... While it's all well and good and nobody knows the truth. If lfc thought this would go down like a lead balloon then frankly getting it done now means in July or August nobody is talking about it so if it were to happen now is the time not august Just like aspas and toure.... Get a sahko in the last day for big money and everyone is on your side eh However to buy anyone at his age when going to World Cup is fool hardy... One injury and he could be done... Sense says you buy him when England go out
Wonder how much FSG have given Brendan for transfers, must be a lot more than we thought if the Lambert for between 8 and 10 million rumours are true, Borini is back, and imo defence strengthening should be our priority before midfield and attacking options. Be funny if we outspend the mancs though.
I'd rather keep Borini. He may not be prolific yet but he's young and should compliment SAS and Lambert if got him. 4 very different strikers there. Also we'd never miss a pen with Borini and Lambert and Gerrard
Nice to dream, but get real people. Southampton want £30m for Shaw, they will expect the same (or maybe more) for both Lallana and Lovren. They may let Lambert go for between £6m and £8m, depends on the remaining length of his contract. Don`t forget they will have to replace these players whilst still trying to strengthen their squad.
Well must say I am not a lawyer but fairly sure if you class them as three separate deals then lallana will be challenged with the FA committee who rule on market values when there is a dispute, and try selling a house with a market value of 300 grand plus, for 249,000 to avoid stamp duty for the buyer with the rest in cash and you will be done for fraud regardless if you are free to do the deal and own the deeds. Anyhow interesting few days it seems before the Miami flight if we are deep into negotiations with Southampton, and its rumored Lambert is up to Melwood tomorrow for a medical.
You can add Chambers (Arsenal), Cork (Everton and Swansea), Gallagher (Arsenal) and Rodriguez (Spurs) to that as well. Of the players who played more than about 10 games for us last season the only ones not linked away by the big tabloids are Boruc and Davis. Not just since Pochettino went either, been like that since before the season ended - the media are even more keen for us to sell our players than you are! Wouldn't begrudge Rickie going to you guys at all (I did like a comment a few pages back 'can he play in a team that plays fast attacking football?'... What did you think we were playing last season haha?!)... Taking Adam too would just be cruel though. Whichever way the fee goes between the two chiefly reported ones, one of the two fanbases will be feeling robbed.
Don't see the logic in this. I like Lambert but he can't have many top flight seasons left in him at his age and even if it 'only' costs £4M that's £4M less to spend on players that will improve the first team. FFP and a finite transfer budget mean we won't be spending a fortune this summer so why spend £4M on competition for Borini and Aspas when it's not even a position we really need cover for.
£4m for Lambert is decent business IMO. We need someone who is happy to sit on the bench and still give his all - being a boyhood LFC fan will ensure he does just that. But also, he is the Plan B. He will accept that he won't be starting matches and that he can expect to play when we're struggling to break teams down. Add ons will be based on appearance fees i.e. 25 appearances, 50, 75. Lovren also appears to be the number 1 CB target. If we can't progress with Lallana, then we'll move onto Shaqiri. Sevilla want £18m for Moreno as they don''t want Suso.
"Sevilla want £18m for Moreno as they don''t want Suso." walk away then. sounds like they are trying to cash in on him having one good season to me.
Maybe Brendan just likes alliteration? We've got Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling* and now we're looking at Lambert, Lallana and Lovren. *And Sakho and Skrtel and Suso and Sinclair and Smith. Two more needed for an outfield team of esses!
The transfer committee have worked hard this season - watch Southampton and poach their players... not even their best players! Lovren - f*ck me, I understand that he's a decent defender and I suppose he is a better fit to partner Sakho (can speak French). But why did we not buy him last season? Is that the policy now - scout players, then buy them for inflated prices after 1 season? I hope we do walk away from the Lallana deal and focus on Shaqiri and Kono.
FFS... Our squad was too small last season and we didn't have European football. We also had two more players at the club on loan. Sure we've got a few youngsters returning from loans as well but we seriously need to bulk up the squad. Have we got the money to be able to do that or will we have to look at a few cheaper signings (assuming its the £4m here) such as Lambert to help boost the numbers? I'm not saying Lambert is a footballing genius and he'd go on the win the CL golden boot but he is a seasoned professional where you know what you are getting and he's cheap. Certainly not a player I'd have suggested before the news broke yesterday either
