Flanagan isn't tall enough to go cb, he's a full back or nothing at lfc so he's got to show more next year than this to take the place fully By all means give him the chance but he cod find himself on the bench if he cannot contribute an awful lot more going forward

He was NEVER a FB. He played at FB to fill a gap and develop his talent. He was always going to end up at CB, perhaps not under Houllier which could have meant him leaving Liverpool but it would have become a top CB all the same. Cream rises. Saying a player would be forced out by X, Y, or Z is daft too since the two players in question are not going to be facing the same competition and the games developed since then too, the standard is higher. Had Flanno and Carra come through the ranks at the same time, Flanno would have got the nod at FB IMO
