Saturday sees this year's running of the Northumberland plate at Newcastle. Overturn has enjoyed another successful year in this stable and runs off top weight. Claimer Henry Brooke takes the ride which would suggest that Donal Mccain, not unreasonably, is keen to offset the weight increase. Does the forum think he is good enough to win this race and do you think that the jockey booking will have any negative impact on his performance. Finally, what are people's general views on this horse given that he's one a number of good quality flat races and also been very competitive over hurdles.
He is a fine stamp of a horse but he will need to give it a brilliant ride, the horse got the run of the race at Chester and Eddie did the fractions perfectly from the front, but is it going to be as easy to do so around Newcastle and with a claimer doing the riding?
I doubt he would want it too soft - not sure what the weather forecast looks like. Certainly has it all to do, 13lbs higher than last year not counting the claim. My money will likely be on the Michael Bell horse Activate - could see this one ending up in Listed company.
Activate does look good, but I just think Overturn hass to much class. If he can get a healthy lead coming in to the last few furlons he wont get caught. The worry at ascot except for the ground was the distance could he stay but over newcastle he of course has C&D so I reckon he will cruise!!
