From RR Gus Poyet has been a man in demand recently but with links to West Ham United and Al-Hilal seemingly coming to nothing, the Uruguayan has now rejected the advances of his former side Real Zaragoza. Poyet is something of a legendary figure at the Segunda Division side and with Zaragoza on the verge of new ownership, Poyet had become the ideal appointment for Kadir Sheikh, the prospective new owner. Although it already seemed very unlikely that the Uruguayan would leave Sunderland for a lower league Spanish side, he has now ended any slim hopes Sheikh had of appointing him once his takeover was complete; I've always said, and it is a feeling that I have, that dream to coach Zaragoza, it is something that is there, but the timing, the moment, it's not appropriate. Now it can not be. Poyet has spoken to the main candidate for the Zaragoza job, another legendary figure at the La Romareda, Nayim, and let it be known that he would speak to their prospective new owner out of respect for his former club. They were to call me, but that conversation still has not occurred. I will listen to them out of respect, clear, for the love that I have for Zaragoza, but I am promised with Sunderland, I'm in the Premier League, now is not the time. The Spanish newspaper which Poyet spoke with, also claims our head coach has a meeting planned with Sunderland for today to discuss aspects of his contract and where a contract extension until the end of the 2015/16 season is a distinct possibility. Hopefully the potential contract extension is signed as soon as possible, to end any speculation on his future but whether or not the planned meeting happens today, Poyet has an escape clause in his contract (wherein he can leave without compensation due to Sunderland) that expires at the end of this month, so one way or the other, we will should hear definitive news in the coming days.

Gerrin! That's how much the media know! Show down talks, transfer conflicts, interest for his services. All bollocks.
finally all this bullshit speculation about him leaving should be put to bed. hopefully he's looking far and wide to improve our squad and get us pushing on next season
It's hardly a statement of intent getting a contract until 2016? Put's us in the same position at the end of next season.
It's a commitment from both sides though, and doesn't leve the club open to a 6-year compensation package to get rid of a useless manager.... Delighted.
its only a year extension but it meens the get out clause has gone. also we can give him a new one this time next year if he goes well next term. there's no need to throw about 5 year deals
Will be interesting to see what sh*te rumours a few papers will be spouting tomorrow now that Gus has signed. Would be nice for a few journos to say "well we really f*cked up there" but it ain't gonna happen. W*nkers.
im just happy the get out clause has gone. also it suggests that the talks beetween him and short must have gone well and gus is happy with the transfer direction
No, the new contract has been superseded with this contract. Yeah, ok, it extends the tenure by a year, but hopefully this new contract gives him a damn site more say in the steering of the club than he had before. Otherwise I doubt he would have signed up
