Only scored a few less goals than Austin.. Nugent.. Vokes.. Ings did this season who were critical to their clubs promotion campaigns this season. Barnsley went down because they couldnt defend... If we can replace the likes of Dervite (and possibly Morrison) with better defenders we could be a strong outfit next season with signings like this
What I don't get is who sourced this player? Who scouted him? Who thought of the price? I don't know enough about the cafc set up to actually feel this is nothing more than a panic/appeasement buy.
Good point Typical, now we have a "head Coach" who works with what he's given, rather than actually having a say, who does decide the playing staff ? If its RD we are in trouble, a non footballing person choosing players based on cost/return rather than footballing talent. Not a good basis to select players
You could be right. I see the player that scored about 5 goals in League 1 for Sheffield Wednesday and was deemed surplus to requirements when they made the step up. I genuinely hope you're right. It would be a very different type of gamble to Parzyszek. I also wonder who identified him as a target.
I think he is just what we need a big aggressive target man. He gave us a number of problems last Season. Some of the conspiracy theorists reckon it is put out there at the same time as the Dyer story, to deflect criticism. But I heard he was at the Valley yesterday. He has certainly not been scouted by Roland's advisors.
Everytime he's played us he's given us problems. Turned Morro inside out in the League One game at Hillsborough, and his record wasn't brilliant that year but he was always one of their best players. My concern is that I don't think we will be an attractive proposition for him. I'm sure he will have a fair few questions if he decides to sit down with us. EDIT - Barnsley-Mad reporting he was in London yesterday to discuss the move with us.
We enquired about O'Grady in January - We were not prepared to pay Barnsley the £500K fee or O'Grady the £13k per week he demanded! Will definitely score goals for you though - n thas what is all abahrt
If that's the case, we might as well throw in the towel now... We can get good players over the line, but it's up to Roley, a few good early signings and generally other transfer prospects tend to follow... It will help keep the likes of Poyet on board as well...
Huddersfield Town has matched our bid for O'Grady It will be very revealing to see where the player himself wants to go now.
Where did you hear that, Vol..? Another agent trying to stump up fees perhaps..? It's just part & parcel of the game these days....
Judging on the location of all of his other clubs, he will chose Huddersfield. Despite the good money they ear, footballers are human beings with personal responsibilities just like and I. I am sure, particularly at 28 he would not want the upheaval of moving his family south if he could help it.
On another Charlton message board this morning. Signing O'Grady feels a bit like putting the roof on a house that has no foundations. We need to use any money floating about to secure Diego Poyet first. Sign up The Class
Spot on, said it a million times before, what you keep is just as important as who comes in... Quality of players signed is also an incentive for players to stay... A vicious circle, but good players ultimately like to feel they have some chance of success...
Have heard that Poyet has a very good offer on the table from Charlton. But will not sign it at the moment until he knows which way the Club is heading.
I love your salacious Charlton titbits Dick. You spread them like bread crumbs across the many Charlton message boards you frequent. In fact, you are our very own, on line Hilda Ogden Mr D.Plumb in head scarf
