I'm guessing the board knows more than they our letting public, however it really does stink of sour grapes. I wouldn't be surprised if they hope by pursuing this they can sue Wycombe for loss of profits and hence bankrupt Wycombe. Wouldn't get our place back in the league but obviously would make the board feel like they can claim it wasn't their negligence and they were cheated, it's a complete and utter smokescreen. Would make us complete pariahs but i don't think the board will care somehow.

    <ok>

its just been on our local news. the sports presenter said along the lines of "even though it happened 4 years ago, its only came to light now so punishment is only happening now. £10k has been given for punishment for matt phillips but rovers believe that there are grounds for further punishment due to believing it wasnt just matt phillips. in the official statement by rovers it is said "and possibly other players" so rovers believe further punishment should be warranted". i cant remember word for word what the sports presenter said but it was along those lines. they also added that "in 1990 swindon won the play offs but then after wasnt allowed to be promoted due to breach of rules. and also boston in 2007 was relegated 2 or 3 divisions due to breach of rules so the fact that the season is already over doesnt mean any further punishment would apply next season. history shows punishment could happen straight away and there is plenty of time for this to be resolved through the off season".

again thats just a sports presenters view on it. i certainly wont be holding any hopes for this but instead looking towards the conference <ok>

news just said it may have happened 4 years ago but only came to light now that they broke the rules so punishment is happening now. they got fined £10k last week for it. higgs and co obviously think £10k is not enough and they also think its not just 1 player which was 4 years ago. they think its other players involved and this season. hense why they are saying wycombe gained an advantage this season <ok>

i just dont know what to think.
half of me is saying if they have broke rules then there should be punishment. wycombe has been punished but rovers appealing its not enough and believe there is other players. if its true then wycombe should be punished meaning it wouldnt be right if we went down if they gained an advantage.
the other half of me is saying its all sour grapes and the board has embarrassed us fans further. they should walk for this. final straw.

CJS - I think you have identified the point that the Board are querying. If Wycombe have broken the rules and gained an unfair advantage THIS season then there should be an inquiry into their wrongdoing and penalties applied accordingly. Why our Board have put their heads above the parapet, God only knows!!

Someone on twitter is claiming Wycombe still have four players with a third party owner, including one who scored against Torquay. Although if true their is a case to answer feel the board should be looking at their own mistakes not at other clubs this is just going to detract from preparing for life in non-league.

Smells of desperation to me, and I don't think there's a chance of us being reinstated.

I'd actually prefer it if we weren't, because relegations is and was a reality check for everyone at the club, not to mention a kick up the backside. If there is any points deduction it would probably be carried over to next season.

wonder what evidence higgs and co has though for this season. they must have something surely. if they dont have evidence then they must walk. get out of our club. enough is enough. getting involved with this meaning not actually preparing for the conference would be a deadly mistake. and this must have an impact on clarke being able to make signings.

this may explain why there is no signings yet.
this may explain why the board booked a meeting with the fans for july to allow time for this all to play out.

Sorry I don't agree with that. If they cheated this season then they should pay the penalty this season.

I still agree with most other thoughts though. I don't think we deserve to wriggle out of under these circumstances.

the local news believe its not too late and may not be carried over to next season. swindon in 1990 won the play offs but then wasnt allowed to be promoted due to breach of rules. boston got relegated in 2007 but then got relegated a further 2 or 3 leagues due to breach of rules.

i agree, playing non league would be the kick up the arse that the club needs.

what a mess the club has got itself in on and off the pitch!

Boston were allowed up to the league in 2002 with financial irregularities, and the four point deduction they got was carried over to the following season. had the deduction been enforced that season Dag & Red would've gone up instead.

But it can go either way, as your examples suggest.

    Total ****.

Why the board can't face up to he fact that their negligence led to our relegation I just don't know.

They're just making us look more daft than we already do. I would not want Wycombe to go down under these circumstances UNLESS it was proven beyond doubt that they gave gained a competitive advantage this season.

After giving it some thought we can only guess the board have taken sound advice prior to going public.

It would be totally incompetent if this were not the case and lets face it, the suits in charge don't exactly have gleaming record. <doh>

something similar happened with west ham and tevez and sheff utd still got relegated but challenged it. it certainly can go either way. wycombe has been fined for the 1 incident that happened 4 years ago. rovers thinks more players is involved and if optogas is correct at comment 25 that 4 players are involved this season then maybe a worse punishment could happen.

but i still am NOT getting my hopes up and still preparing for life as a non league club. which i hope the club is doing as well.

wow, i been reading a lot of info on this and this is a major ****storm!

the agent who dealt with matt phillips transfer from wycombe and his agency has let out a fair bit of info wycombes dealings and how the FA has decided to ignore certain details. taken from sky sports...

the agency of the agent involved has confirmed its not just the matt phillips deal which wycombe got fined for. there is another 3 players at least which they have had no punishment for.
