If we're judging managers on their performances against us then we should've gone for Allardyce!

Wow, a whole season. But why should he be treated any different than your countless other managers.

We've slightly overachieved if anything. City, Chelsea, Arsenal and United spend over 50% more in wages each year than we do and Liverpool spend about a third more so really. Player-wise you could argue we should have been doing more but the trouble is everytime a club outside of the big money sides gets a good thing going they get players and managers picked off and it's not easy to replace them straight away.

I think Pochettino is ideal for us in many ways too. My one worry is that in the short term he has to get a certain level of results in and that can be difficult in this league, especially since the media and pundits all can't wait to knock Spurs down.

I'd be surprised if we were in for any of your midfielders, by the way, we've already got about 20 of them at the club(that's not even an exaggeration) and the focus really has to be on sorting a new left back, centre back and (I hope) striker.

    "We've slightly overachieved if anything."

    Disagree.
Think the rest under-achieve given their resources (the Goons being the worst by miles) .

Come on Wet Spam always raise their game against us, it's their cup final, nothing to do with the manager.

Yeah, I've had a knock on the head, apologoies for not slating Levy and Pochettino.

Pochettino out, he hasn't won a single game for us since he's been in charge and that's unacceptable! Levy out, everything is his fault and it's an absolute disgrace that we're not in the top 4 every season and winning trophies.

You could argue that but achievement is generally measured by how you perform compared to those around you. We generally perform favourably compared to most clubs in the league when you take into account resources and only Everton have outdone us in terms of getting to the top end of the table on a smaller budget.

And that is how I have measured Spurs.
And I contend that Spurs have been consistently operating at their level.
Which means that level is quite high +/- the other CL slot rivals have under-performed.

A young, fairly inexperienced manager with a reputation for being a thoughtful and studious coach.

You had one of those at the start of last season too.

    This one doesn't speak English.

It's another might be/might not be appointment.

I usually go with my gut feeling on these matters. Ok so it's not a full proof way of doing things but I always felt Jol and Redknapp were the right fit for us at the time. Ramos had me fearing the worst, as did AVB, As for Poch, I think he's shown the right attitude at Saints which is what we need right now to inspire these spoilt brats. He'll do well for us. Perhaps a sluggish start but once he finds the real talent in our squad, weeds out the garbage and hopefully unearths a gem or two, we might just start to show our true potential.

What concerns me is Levy... the five year deal seems like a statement of intent to finally back a manager but Levy simply can't find it within himself to do that in reality so it seems crazy. I fear a slow start or a few bad defeats will have his trigger finger itching. Too much success will cause him to get delusional and take us in a new direction under new management. Levy's problem is he's totally shortsighted on all matters football.

All in all though we all must agree on one thing... let's back the new man in charge and give him the season to show us his direction "no matter what" happens. Yes, we have all justifiably become a cynical bunch over the past few years. Who can blame us? We've had our hopes raised all too often only to be punched in the guts just when it counted. But let's give Poch the time, backing and support needed. A club with supporters questioning his appointment from day one will just breed negativity so let's just say what we have to say now, move on and then get behind him.

I'm glad we did our business quick so he can prepare for pre-season and review the squad close up asap. Let's hope Poch is a real gem within this young generation of managers. COYS!

I'm willing to give MoPo the benefit of the doubt as I said earlier on another post, but not Levy. He's had enough chances. To me and I hope I'm wrong, but MoPo looks a typical Levy appointment. I have low expectations because he inherited a good side at Southampton so he didn't have to do too much. He didn't have any really big names to manage so for me he remains unproven. He has to make a good start otherwise he will quickly lose the dressing room, I don't think he will command respect of the senior players if it all goes tits up.

I don't want Levy out because we didn't finish in the top 4, the reason I want him gone is that if he ever does find a good manager, he will probably sack him before he is given a chance. Rome wasn't built in a day.

If MoPo were to bring anyone with him from Southampton, my choice would be the ex chairman Cortese to replace Levy rather than any of the players. Levy could move up into a non football financial director, a job that he may do rather well.

What do you see different this time from all of Levy's other appointments?

Yes, he does. This is from over a year ago, at last season's Player Awards Dinner for Southampton:

Not a lot. I'm just hoping that the law of averages are finally in our favour and we have been fortunate enough to get a good 'un that will stick around longer than half a bleedin' season!

By the way lads on a positive note, Argentinians haven't done too bad for us in the past if my memory serves me correctly. Long may it continue! <ok>
