Rumours on other sites saying that Sam Gallagher may possibly be joining on loan from Southampton, very much doubt it though as he was close to the first team last year.
James, I think henry is talking about the rumours (about Sam Gallagher) on other gills sites like fansonline and gillsconnect. They are all just rumours though, along with the rumours of Lines (Vale), McGlashen, McLeod etc. The only transfer talk with a bit of substance is the Doug Loft one, which was aired by a newspaper in Stoke. Not sure how reliable that paper/website is though.
This is a link to both of them. http://www.kentsportsnews.com/gills-make-double-morris-signing-29-05-2014/
According to dons fans Morris is a good player, and they're sad to see him go. Then again they dais that about Gregory! (Cue people telling me Gregory was xabi Alonso in disguise)
I will, of course, give my support to Morris ( unless he becomes useless ) - but I am a little sceptical as to expectations for next season. Morris was in the Wimbledon side that barely survived dropping into the Conference - finishing 20th in L2, and would be where Bristol Rovers are if results went differently on the last day of the season.
True, but didn't this bloke only sign for them in the last couple of months? Also, you can have very good players in very poor teams. ie Luke Freeman with Stevenage. We wouldn't say no to him just because they went down stone motherless last...
He was only with them from January after 8 months out. Have a feeling that he could play a similar part in the squad as Linganzi, namely covering starters. I do like how many positions he can play in though, ideal for a small squad.
I see him as a replacement for Lee actually. Can cover a number of positions which Charlie could, on what is probably a lot less wages and hopefully more consistent. He may not have the attacking edge that Chalie did but he surely can't get booked and injured as much! As you say Gillslad, not a signing that will set the world alight but a versatile player is an absolute must for a small squad.
Truebluejock, the gills supporter in Cheltenham, is adament that we have signed McGlashen on a 2 year deal which will be announced early next week. I think , like Weston, if true, he will divide opinion.
Been having a look around a Cheltenham Forum and there certainly seems to be suggestion this is a done deal. Although some of the comments were not complimentry, I gave him a reasonable good report when we played them in 2012. http://www.robinsnestforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16580 http://www.robinsnestforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16505
As rumours go, this appears to be a very strong one. I keep reading that he's like Weston in that he can win games, but is very inconsistent. Although, a lot of people saying we really need some pace, and he does have that in spades.
Wouldn't be a bad double signing if we got loft and mcglashan! Think he is quite similar to Weston in terms of pace but the main complaint with mcglashan is his lack of decent crosses but with Weston it was always a lack of true control on the ball as if his head was in front of his feet.
I always thought Weston was a one trick pony, like a poor mans Shaun Wright-Phillips.i.e. as soon as you can hit the ball past the full back and run like hell. It tends to work against the cart horses in L2 but that's about the limit. I hope McGlashen has got more about him than that, and possibly playing at a slightly higher level where full backs tend to drop off you a bit might benefit him, where he can use his dribbling skills that the Cheltenham fans think he has.
At 26 McGlashen does not have a record that sets my world alight with excitement, however, something different has to be applied other than Myles Weston, we really have struggled to find a suitable replacement for this position. Down side is that League Two does appear to have been his level at best, please someone correct me if they think I'm wrong. So League One is a step up for him. But this is where i would take on vinney's point that he has dribbling skills, which in League Two I can remember was affectively dealt with by Framps. Hence if defenders do drop off a bit as vinney suggests, then McGlashen may benefit from the step up. I hope so because as i've already said it is certainly an area i want to see attention paid too. Which leads to my next question how will this affect Martin, because i felt he was better under MA when he was allowed to come forward. Unless we look at another left back as well. Basically what i'm saying is Martin compensated for Weston's weakness but if McGlashen is better then will that overlap still be required, hope that makes sense!
To be completely fair the only way I remember frampton being vale to deal with him (away at Cheltenham last year) was by kicking him so high up in the air that mcglashan came down with snow on. Someone may disagree but that's the way I saw frampton handle pace that game. In a way that may prove why the step up May be good for him as players at this level are more likely to try and show them down the wings and this may prove to be a good thing for mcglashan.
I've always been impressed with Mcglashan whenever we played Cheltenham and Aldershot before that. In fact if i remember rightly we very nearly got him when we left Aldershot. Yes he is similar to Myles, in that he's incosistent and his crosses aren't always great, but he's a lower league player, if he was consistently brilliant then a player of his ilk would be nowhere near league 1! in essence, Myles has been given the chance to impress in League 1 and didn't take it, we absilutely need pace within our team and therefore why not from Mcglashan, given he is tricky, quick and importantly within our price range. I agree with the point about more opportunity to run at players in League 1, at priestfiled in particular last season we had so many counter attacking chances when the full backs (of the better teams) pushed on. Myles would insist on running with his head down on these occassions but it was clear to see that a player with that sort of pace is extremely useful. He will of course be inconsistent but i think the moments of brilliance he could create mean he is definitely worth having in the squad. I say SQUAD as well, because people keep saying 'he's not a first 11 player etc' well look at Taylor's history, he always likes to tinker with teams and play different players so that's what i think he's doing for the coming season, get a squad of 16-18 players who he trusts to throw in at any occassion.
