Very clear stats.. Couldn't score away from home, was that a missing striker or tactics that backfired.? Home form would have seen you safe easily..
both. tactics: ward set up too defensively away from home. he had a different set up for away games. if he had set up to play in away games like we did at home then im sure we would have at least secured 1 extra point that would have seen us survive. missing stiker: o'toole scored more goals than all our strikers put together. if we had signed a half decent striker then im sure he would have scored a minimum of 4 goals. even if these minimum of 4 goals didnt get us extra points, those 4 goals would have seen us survive on goal difference.
There are many examples of where we could have made up the extra point (as most teams could) but the most obvious one was when we lost at home to Accrington when we did everything but score and then lost 0-1. That would have been more than enough to save us, but would it have been the same old the following season, would any lessons have been learnt? We needed a big proverbial kick up the arse and this is it, trouble is it will still be mismanaged by the worst board in our history who seem to have been too naive to have even contemplated the effect of relegation until it was too late.
if we had survived it would have papered over the cracks for sure. either way staying up or going down we would have had a player clear out anyway due to the amount of out of contract players we had. what was needed to change is higher up and so far no heads have rolled. higgs said "critical decisions and radical changes will happen". still waiting!
