Will Pochettino stay or go?

Rogers was the money man under Cortese (who people have again forgotten had no football knowledge either). That seems like pretty good experience to me, and he must have been well-qualified in the first place for Cortese (a money man himself) to entrust him with that role.

All this speculation is pretty daft really. Cortese aside, the board, and the staff underneath them, is hardly any different to what it was before. If Liebherr and Krueger were really running this club into the ground, do you think Reed and Rogers would have stayed? The only thing we can do is wait and see how they handle this situation.

 

No one with any real business knowledge would ever get involved with a football club for purely business reasons. There is always another motivation, be it vanity, passion, ambition or love of the game. I have no idea what frau liebher's motives are, but if it was purely business she'd have sold by now. There are few riskier investmens than a football club, so something else is driving her. I have no idea what at this point, & I doubt the so called itks do either. So we wait and see.

 

When MP finally gets out of the door, the board need to come out and make a strong statement. We need a touch of the Churchills rather than a Tony Blair...less grey more colour. Kreuger write your speech, then edit by 75%.

 

Call me naive, but couldn't it just be that it was her father's baby and she has been drawn into the club's warm embrace as well? She certainly takes more of an active interest than most owners, why would she attend all the games and the awards evening if she didn't care?

 

I think she has been very busy with sorting out her father's estate and her family. Saints were doing well under Nicola so was not a priority, though some doubt about Nicola's stewardship was beginning to creep in last year. Serious money was being spent and loans were being taken out. She steps in (as we all would with an asset this size). According to Ralph and the evidence of our own eyes, she has discovered that she likes being involved in a football club more than she thought she would. So far, so good...now we have to wait and see.

 

I hope you're right. As I say, I really don't know, but at this point your scenario makes as much sense as any other.

There has been absolutely no suggestion that they're running the club into the ground; just that they're not going to be as invested in the club's success as someone like Markus, or plenty of other potential buyers who would basically be doing it for a hobby.

 

Think you're right in that evaluation Fran. That's gut feel though, as I struggle to be convinced by anything Ralph says at this stage.

The disdain toward Pochettino on this thread is mind-boggling too. People calling him a deserter (without knowing the facts), then providing a list of managers they'd like who'd be.......deserters from their respective clubs. But that's okay because they're coming to Saints!?!

 

Of course they'd have stayed, they're in incredibly well-paying jobs, who would throw that away? They are still humans. And yeah obviously the speculation is daft, as all speculation is, but we might as well discuss their direction, given that at the moment there's more reason to be concerned than excited.

That applies to Rogers maybe, but with Reed's CV (and his achievements at Southampton), he could walk into a similar job anywhere in Europe. Why would he tarnish his reputation by involving himself in our imminent collapse?

 

Having this emotional interest in setting the business plan is what Leeds had! Things start to spiral downward when the heart rules the head in the setting of the plan.

 

I don't know if it's time for a "who's next" thread before MP has gone but as sitting here in Jakarta nervous scanning sites for news I noticed a Guardian article saying Paul Clement was ready for a number 1 job.

 

Who's suggesting they're going to run it in the ground? There may have been people, but I'm not going to trawl all the way back through to find one example.

I think that's hugely unlikely - it would seem we're looking at a lower middle, self sustaining model moving forward. Not exactly thrilling, and you can see why Mauricio and star players are (likely) going. With the wrong manager we may flirt with relegation too, but I don't see this at all as some kind of major asset stripping exercise.

 

And what Markus had.

 

Who knows, that involves even more speculation. Possibly because it looks bad if he jumps ship before things start going down hill (one bad season with mitigating factors such as players being sold from under him won't damage his CV too badly), or because he feels like he can keep the club at the same level even without significant investment. Of course, this is all moot if we hire another manager of equally high quality, and the Lallana and Shaw money is added onto an already substantial budget - it may be unlikely, but we'll see.

 

Really! You don't think him and Cortese had a clear plan for picking a club up on the cheap and investing a relatively small amount of capital in it to turn it into a club worth several hundred million in the Premier League? Or was it simply that he loved SFC?
