Just watched the interviews - did you know that Green dislocated his thumb with 25 mins to go.... HERO!!!!
I only read about it an hour ago and assumed it had been covered elsewhere, he didn't even get any treatment for it. Makes his performance look even better.
How long left on his contract ? I know he is 34 but worth maybe a punt up to the age of 37 at least .
Don't think I'd go that far but had earned another year for his performances throughout this season. Saying that, if a younger model is available on half the salary, sentiment and our ever-increasing debt should dictate otherwise.
He's out of contract, I don't think he's worth 40k a week but I'd offer him reduced wages with a bigger appearance bonus. For me, he's a 1b goalie in the PL, not a clear starter.
Butland would make a good under-study, and back-up to Rob Green, to perhaps eventually take-over the #1 spot.
Maybe Marshall of Cardiff might fancy a stay in London , if Green is offered only a year can't see him staying
The Huddersfield and reading goalies would be good young options. Didn't but land go to stoke because he wanted to be #1 and then ended up on loan somewhere?
Should definitely keep Green as imo stability is the key for next season, along with Onouha , Barton and Austin they are the spine of the team. If we can follow Swansea example of just adding the odd player hear and there then I think we'll be fine. Small steps and all that.
Keepers seem to get better with age. I think he absolutely deserves a contract next year. Was quality on Saturday.
Flyer your hatred of Green & Redknapp is now becoming somewhat tiresome. Green was superb Saturday and has been for most of the season, give him a new contract because we'd struggle to find a better keeper!
He went to massive Leeds on an emergency loan to fill in for the injured Paddy Kenny. At that time Leeds were imploding (Paddy exploding?) and initially he was shipping a lot of goals, likely due to an inept defence. I believe that Butland and Rob Green would make for a good pairing, and compliment one another based on age & experience.
Green wasn't at LR on Sunday and left West Ham to join us just after winning promotion with them. He is out of contract. Would love to see him want to stay and resign but I wonder if it is dependent on our other keeper leaving. Let's hope the other keeper has a great World Cup and puts himself in the shop window.
If he's out of contract now maybe he will get a better offer elsewhere? Its not always in our power to decide these days
