Former Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne could join Sunderland after three-year spell in Germany The Blues academy product is a target for Stoke, Swansea, QPR and Fulham, but Sunderland are leading the race. Sunderland are leading the chase to bring Michael Mancienne back to England. Mancienne, 26, wants to head home after a three-year stint in Germany with Hamburg. And the Black Cats are the front-runners ahead of Stoke, Swansea, QPR and Championship-bound Fulham to seal a bargain £1million deal. Sunderlandâs sporting director Lee Congerton plans on being reunited with Mancienne and has recommended the versatile defender to boss Gus Poyet. The pair worked together with Chelseaâs youth team before Mancienne moved to Hamburg. Sunderland are chasing new defenders after Phil Bardsley joined Stoke and Carlos Cuellar, Mo Diakite and Valentin Roberge were axed. With just 12 months left on his contract, Mancienne can leave for a knockdown fee. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- any takers ??
I remember this lad when he was on loan to Wolves. Played centre half if I'm right, not the tallest but he was fairly quick and good on the ball. For a million pounds it seems a good deal.
Worth a look. He's not really developed as was initially thought, but he's still of a good age, has reasonable pace for a CB and is decent on the ball. He could easily be developed, and £1million is not really a risk for us.
I agree £1m would be worth a go, god knows we need some CBs the right side of 30.. Looked like he could have done really well when he came through at Chelsea, but agree that he hasn't really kicked on. After the season he's just had with Hamburg at least he'll be used to a relegation scrap!!
Didn't realize Roberge had been axed, have I missed something? Mancienne is a very good player so it would be a yes from me
I would think a million is a steal but I fear slackjaw will nip in and the bright lights of London May sway it.
They haven't, think they're for sale but they're under contract so they were definitely retained. Lazy reporting.
Not for me, hamburg had a wretched season and he couldn't hold down a place. I think he's actually gone backwards in the past few seasons.
I'm just going to let Gus do his own thing and whoever comes in will do for me. I just want to enjoy life from now on and let Gus take the strain.
Gathering pace this one http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/former-chelsea-defender-michael-mancienne-3607422
I watched him play for Wolves and he looked like he has load of potential. Its a definite yes for me at that price. I am sure he is actually a RB rather than a centre half. He has what we need which is loads of pace and strength. Reminds me a little of Rose but his weakness if probably his defending.
