QPR manager Harry Redknapp is poised to move for midfielder Frank Lampard and defender Rio Ferdinand, also 35, as he prepares for a return to the Premier League. Ferdinand was released by Manchester United at the end of the season, while Lampard is out of contract at Chelsea. Surely TF has learnt not not to sign these aged retirees
Please no! Even my wife (who bless her isn't a big football fan) commented on this and said, 'oh no...won't they just be expensive and old.'
Hasn't Tony already said no about Rio. Frank i am not so sure about. Might be worth one season. You would think Harry would be interested
We've already had the best Ferdinand and the worst; Rio is inbetween and surely too expensive. Re Frank, we already have a penalty taker
We're supposed to be strengthening the side to stay up, Lampard would be a good signing, a midfielder who scores goals, something we've been seriously lacking. I'm not so sure about Ferdinand, he's been injury-prone over the past couple of seasons with a back problem that won't get any better. I think we have to sign one or two players with experience at the highest level plus a few younger players for a decent balance...
I agree thought he looked like decent player. I think we should be looking at the best from the championship and players from the dutch and french leagues. We have tried paying over the odds from old english players and its hasn't been a great strategy
It would be silly season if we hadn't signed a bunch of these types before. Its probably true plus Joe Cole and Parker if he stays on.
According to TF this morning there's not going to be a big spree... http://talksport.com/football/qpr-owner-fernandes-rules-out-summer-spending-spree-14052692902?
There's also article stating he's going to spend the TV money. We have no choice to bring in a lot of players, hopefully they are sensible Yun type signings and not Parker, Cole Rio, fat frank etc.
I would say Rio a definite no. Lamps possibly if on a sensible contract. Given the family connection I think that he would give it his best effort.
