Great appointment for Chelsea football club but this is another blow for the English national team.

After seeing England’s under 21’s crash out of the European Championships at the weekend, I was waiting for an article such as this.

Content is pretty accurate I’d say in relation to the heart of English players these days and can’t really argue with the fact that the money involved in England now is making club football preference.

A point that will continue to rumble on until our national team finds success……….so this point will rumble on for an awfully long time!

    Essentially I agree.
After the Champions League final, one of the pundits commented on that game being the pinnacle of football. Another pundit questioned this; "even more than the world cup?". Reply; "Yes, of course (you stupid idiot)".
For players, the Champions League is all year, every year. That gives the glory and the payday all the time. Not just a couple of weeks every 4 years. And the PL is driven by the Champions League. One thing that was noticeable in the last world cup was the poor performance of most of the top players - not just the English.

But the whole argument falls down due to one simple word - SPAIN.

Their stars are equally drawn to the riches of the Champions League. La Liga is similar to the PL. So Spain should have the same issues as England
Yet they turned up for the World Cup. Their U21's have shone in the Euro's.
So there is a place for a national side as well as the money of club football.
